Episode 7 of the Quantum Matters podcast covering the convergence of quantum and blockchain technologies is now live! Listen or watch here: link.cohostpodcasting.com/cd716b0d-8623-… This week I sit down with Rick Carback and @cadillion, co-founders of PostquantLabs, to talk about their contributions to @quipnetwork, a quantum-classical blockchain now live in testnet. Colton and Rick are so good at explaining the concepts that I have a much better understanding of blockchain technology, and I also learned how the Quip Network can help its community understand quantum computing too. We get into how the network uses D-Wave's Advantage2™ annealing quantum computers to compete against GPUs to solve tough optimization problems for the network's "proof-of-useful-work" approach. Early results? Advantage2 makes an important and energy-efficient contribution to the network when it wins blocks against classical approaches. Tune in to learn more! Enjoying Quantum Matters? Let us know! Rate and review wherever you're listening. #QuantumRealized #QuantumComputing #EnergyEfficient #Blockchain @dwavequantum

The World Tech Conference in Milan has been a lot of fun! I got a chance to see Henna Virkkunen open the day discussing the vision for the quantum economy in Europe. I gave a talk in the session covering Quantum Computing Today: Scaling Quantum Systems from Chips to Applications. I really enjoyed this topic because it closely parallels my 23 year career in quantum computing at D-Wave. And we had a lively panel discussing Architectures of Quantum Computation: From Physical Qubits to Scalable Systems where we each made our case for how physical implementation decisions affects the system integration. tl;dr I had fantastic peers on the panel and represented superconducting annealing and gate FTW! #QuantumRealized #EnergyEfficient #QuantumComputing #BeyondClassical

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Qubits Europe 2026 in London. What stood out throughout the day wasn't just the breadth of applications being discussed. It was the momentum behind them. From manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain optimization to materials science, drug discovery, and advanced computing infrastructure, speakers shared how organizations across Europe are moving quantum computing from exploration to implementation. Researchers, business leaders, government representatives, and technology innovators came together to discuss not whether quantum will create value, but where it is delivering results today and how to accelerate what's next. #Q2B26 Tokyo comes to a close after lots of great discussions and the energy of 800 attendees. Fukuda-san of NTT Docomo presented on their results reducing cell network signal congestion with quantum hybrid optimization. It brought a lot of positive attention to their quantum computing team because the results seemed “too good to be true” at first, but seeing is believing now that the optimization results are delivering true value deployed in their networks. Kunugi-san of Shionogi gave a great talk showing how they’re using our quantum annealers to improve their transformer AI model for pharmaceutical drug discovery. It’s generating a higher proportion of drug-like molecules than is even represented in their training data. We had a number of attendees come by our booth to meet with the Shionogi team about their impressive work. (I was also impressed to find out that Kunugi-san is an avid runner and has even run a few ultramarathons!!) In my keynote presentation I shared how our conversations with business leaders are changing from “should I use quantum computing” to “how quickly can I implement it”. I spoke about our dual platform approach, and walked through several business success stories. In my opinion our talks were among the most business application focused of the whole event. I hope to return again soon! #QuantumRealized #QuantumComputing #BeyondClassical

Well, looks like the boys at Flatiron finally published a comprehensive rebuttal of D-Wave's 2025 claim of quantum supremacy. I wonder if $QBTS CEO @Alan_Baratz has anything to say about this? They did it with tensor networks on modest classical hardware. Do we know if this is generalizable to other problems the quantum annealer is good at? quantumcomputingreport.com/flatiron-insti…

D-Wave’s groundbreaking supremacy result HOLDS. We took a few days to respond because we wanted to carefully review the Science version of the Tindall et al. paper and understand whether there were material extensions or changes beyond the arXiv version introduced over a year ago. After that review, the conclusion is clear: the same technical limitations apply. At the time the arXiv paper appeared and in the months that followed, D-Wave researchers and collaborators clearly demonstrated where the Tindall work falls short of overturning our supremacy result. The only major change in the work that has now been published in Science is the addition of large diamond lattice data. This supports the claim that they are using BP-TNS to extract a Kibble-Zurek exponent in a 3D system. But, the same criticisms apply as a year ago: They don’t compute the same observables, nor all the geometries, nor the largest size geometries, nor all the couplings computed by the D-Wave team. For pointers to more technical detail on the shortcomings of the Tindall work, see posts by my colleagues Andrew King and Trevor Lanting on LinkedIn today. It does nobody any good to use click-bait titles that overstate reality, and it’s just as bad to repeat and promote claims that misrepresent the technical record. We should all hold ourselves to a higher standard. $QBTS #quantumcomputing linkedin.com/pulse/still-be… linkedin.com/pulse/d-waves-…

.@LosAlamosNatLab recently shared how our annealing quantum computers are contributing to scientific discovery at the lab. Their researchers showed how D-Wave technology can be used not only for optimization, but as a controllable experimental platform to study how complex systems evolve, retain memory, approach tipping points, and behave at scale. This body of work reinforces something we’ve long recognized: our quantum computing technology can deliver value today on high-impact problems, now. #QuantumComputing $QBTS lanl.gov/media/news/041…
