Completely correct. The pilot IS the chance it is the proof of concept taht you are using to seel your idea. If the pilot isn't good, if it doesn't connect, if it doesn't resonate with audiences then it doesn't get picked up for full release. It's that simple.
Now if there's potential, or if the pilot mostly resonates and people think it could work with some tweaks then that's a different story. The pilot is also a great opportunity for feedback. Especially with the internet. The feedback is abundant and immediate. If your show gets picked up for series you can take that criticism and work it into the next episode and tweak the first episode to reflect those changes too.
That has always been common.
The problem is that a lot of artists and creatives have an entitlement and ego problem. They literally CAN'T take criticism of any kind. They see all criticism as attacks, as personal vendettas.
I haven't seen Gameoverse. I plan to, but I struggle getting started because of arin hansen's totally crap vocal performance as that autistic barney dinosaur in the clips I saw.
