Great stories of queer trans solidarity

After supporting Brooklyn reformers’ advocacy to allow Non-Binary, Genderfluid, Genderqueer, & Transgender candidates on County Committee, we echo those calls for Queens. 🏳️‍🌈 However, the LGBTQIA+ community is severely underrepresented in the Queens Democratic Party. Thread 1/12

This is so problematic & disturbing in many ways. We demand @DRichards13 severe any ties with this person. Transphobic & homophobia are deadly & Queens -with one of the largest trans populations in the country- doesn’t have the luxury of having someone spewing hate & ignorance.

Gender is a wide range spectrum beyond the binary male / female. We also know a lot of TGNC voices identify as people of color & excluding them of politics is blatant discrimination.

We strongly stand in solidarity and support to the non-binary, gender non-conforming & trans candidates for County Committee who were discriminatorily disqualified of the ballot because they ran as their true gender, refusing to wrongly run as male or female CC member.

Excluding someone of the political process because they do not identify as female / male is not only outdated, but should be unlawful. It is disheartening & offensive these non-binary, GNC candidates were disqualified because they did not run through the gender binary. 1/2

Gender is not binary. If we are to build an inclusive Democratic Party, then party rules need to change to allow inclusive practices. I am in solidarity with my fellow members and support their reinstatement. We need to do better.
