Birth of Australia’s First Ashes Whitewash Captain
#OnThisDay in 1879, Warwick Armstrong was born.
He led Australia to the first-ever 5-0 Ashes whitewash in 1920-21, a feat unmatched until Ricky Ponting repeated it in 2006-07.
Nicknamed “The Big Ship” for his 140 kg frame, Armstrong won eight consecutive Ashes Tests as captain - still a record.
A gritty batter and handy leg-spinner, he scored three centuries in the 1920-21 series, including a career-best 158 in Sydney.
He passed away in 1947.

"Daydream Believer" almost became the B-side of a single with Michael Nesmith on lead vocals ("Love Is Only Sleeping"). But at the last minute, because of a problem with the European masters, "Daydream Believer" became an A-side and was a huge success.
It is the only track from the album The Birds, The Bees & the Monkees (1968) that has the entire quartet playing. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 4 weeks (the last #1 in the US) and #5 on the UK Singles Chart.

@HastingsFred Yes it did. And 20 years later the boot was on the other foot when Murdoch wanted something that Packer had. He couldn't buy his way out of that problem. Chaos ensued for the next three years.

Having watched the show on Ch9 re sport becoming professional, in particular cricket and the advent of World Series Cricket, K Packer and his team,including John Cornell AKA Strop, were true visionaries!
