Like why tf do people call british peeps retarded because they call chips crisps. It's just a fucking different branch of the language, of course everyone speaks slightly differently.

I wish we could just have nice cultural exchange instead of everyone trying to rip each other apart because in one Eng speaking country they say or spell something in a different way. Like as if your country having something different about it makes it stupid. Goes both ways btw

Does the USA have dialects of english in a way that is distinct from / more grammatically different than accents, 'slang' etc?

@reallyswagdudey It depends really, there are some strong outliers and pockets in the US. Like it is hard to understand some accients for me, like cajun or in apppalachia. And there are realy big cultural differences in regions like that because they have real historical divides.-

@BjorkBrodern @BlindlyFollow You can have heatstroke when your young too, Especially if your in a hot building doing physical labor for 8-10 hours with no cooling for relief. There are places in flordia where it's like 90F 85% humidity, with no ac working on boats, it feels like your in a sauna

@BlindlyFollow Why would there be AC in factorys? There is no risk of the elderly dying inside a factory, factory workers aren't 90 years old.

The Americans who can't imagine life without AC, don't they have jobs outside? Or in factories? Is this the same Americans who propose America re-industrialize and bring back manufacturing? There is no AC in manufacturing.

@ARlANAFACTS @mangh_oe Have you considered, that depending on where in the US you are we call it different things? like how in different regions they say pop, soda, coke ect referring to the same thing.

@CaledonianCamel @madden_pierce2 @crombula_ but the points still the same you could pick 0c as when humans are likely to get hypothermia and 100 at heatstroke, that would be more intrinsic to our lives then when water boils and freezes. because while we have alot of water in us, we are in fact not wholly water.

@CaledonianCamel @madden_pierce2 @crombula_ you do know it can snow above 0C right? because the temp of the air where your standing is higher than the temp of the air in the clouds right? Also the comment you responded to I was talking about cooking but go off.

Americans love to say things like "fahrenheit is better because it measures the temperature. Unlike Celsius, which does some other thing, I imagine." I'm not sure why they keep doing this.

@CaledonianCamel @madden_pierce2 @crombula_ Again how is that intrinsically more valuable than the freezing point being a random number. I could make a scale saying 0 is chicken at room temp and 100 is when its safe to eat. Both ends have meaning doesn't mean its actually better or worst than any other scale.

@R0BAD0114 @madden_pierce2 @crombula_ at what temperature will snow that's fallen stick around versus melt? do you think it might, just might, perhaps, be when the outside temperature is around the freezing point of water? idk, just a hunch i have

hope u realise using ac is one thing making global warming worse + leading to higher temps over all and ur solution is to tell us to make it worse here too just because y’all hate where YOU live.
lenka 🏒🍄📚@lenka87reads

british people when the options are: 1. admit americans are right about AC being increasingly necessary bc the heat is no longer an anomaly, apply for a grant/buy a cheap floor unit that doesn’t require thousands in ductwork and don’t run it 24/7 on max power 2. literally die

@R0BAD0114 @d0pam1n3___ @rat_liker @angryaboutbikes i feel like i read somewhere the us military already had to switch a bunch of stuff to metric measurements for interoperability with the rest of NATO etc. a full switch over feels inevitable but probably a hundred years off still

Here's What I Reckon:
Here's What I Reckon:@angryaboutbikes·
I’m a big fan of “Fahrenheit is more accurate because it has a wider range” as if anyone in the world has ever gone “fuck it’s hot” “yeah it’s 27 degrees out” “I’d say more like 28” “damn if only we could get more precise about exactly how hot it is today”

@bbeeeeeepp @d0pam1n3___ @rat_liker @angryaboutbikes I mean technically we where meant to, it's in the law to do so, but we just kind of ignored it because it was a voluntary. No one wanted to spend the money to change the road signs lol. It's still there though.

@bbeeeeeepp @d0pam1n3___ @rat_liker @angryaboutbikes I think people just like sticking with what they're used to. Especially when there isnt that much interaction with other countries. Like some dude in ohio isnt going to be ever dealing with C unless he goes online. So why would he want to change what he's comfy with, yk?

@d0pam1n3___ @bbeeeeeepp @rat_liker @angryaboutbikes I disagree with both really, I think both equally viable. I find it annoying when americans try to say that F is better too, because it isn't. We're just used to it more. Worst is when they try and argue Ft and lbs is better than Kg and M, metric is just better for that.

@bbeeeeeepp @rat_liker @angryaboutbikes I feel like I see far more of "Hah ha dumb american using imperial units" type stuff than americans complaining about metric usage. The only thing that might be that is people asking what that is in F, which is stupid because you can just look it up.
