We need to stop lying to ourselves. What we call ‘elections’ in this country are actually SELECTIONS. The real arrangements are made long before voting day by godfathers, party cabals, and powerful interests. Citizens are only invited to perform legitimacy. Different elections, same pattern. It’s time to rename it and rethink how to end this theatrics. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Owning Up to Leadership Failures and Political Responsibility This morning, I listened to the British Prime Minister’s speech announcing his planned resignation in July. As a keen observer of global politics, my primary interest lies in examining what successful nations do right and the structural factors that cause others to lag or struggle with governance and development. The Prime Minister’s planned resignation comes amid mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges. Looking inward in our dear country, we can recall our own situation. Before 2015, our President on several occasions championed the call for the then President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians. During the Chibok school kidnapping incident, he demanded the immediate resignation of President Jonathan, arguing that the government had failed in its most fundamental duty of protecting lives. During the 2023 election campaign, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made several promises, including improved electricity supply. He also challenged the electorate not to vote for him for a second term if he failed to deliver on those commitments—particularly in providing stable power, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of Nigerians. At present, however, these conditions have worsened. Electricity supply remains unreliable, insecurity has intensified in many areas, including kidnappings, and economic hardship has deepened rather than eased. Similar concerns are reflected across other critical sectors such as security, infrastructure, transportation, and anti-corruption efforts, all of which have regressed. We are in the worst possible condition. I, therefore, join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance. Such a gesture would help enthrone a political culture rooted in accountability and responsibility, rather than further entrenching impunity. It would also send a powerful message that public office is a sacred trust, not an entitlement, and help build a society in which future leaders understand that failure carries consequences. Only by ending the culture of impunity can we secure a better future for the society our children will inherit in a New Nigeria that is possible. -PO

"It's now or never—don't sit on the fence. We all know the 2027 general election is coming. I hear some people saying, 'Voting is not working, we're tired, we've been voting for years and nothing has changed.' Don't let them defeat you mentally. It's time to stand our ground. We can't keep planning to go to church every Sunday and not plan to vote in the 2027 election. Your vote can make a difference. Everybody needs to come together. If you think your area is not safe enough, gather with other voters at your polling unit." — Actor Stan Nze

Senegal is about to collapse economically if fuel subsidies are not removed NOW. The country even had to borrow to fund travel for its players to the World Cup. What a mess. This could have been Nigeria's fate if fuel subsidies hadn't been removed. Thank you, BAT.

Una see say these people dey mad! Hire more sanitation workers, No! buy more garbage trucks, No! build more landfills and incinerators, No! But the couldn’t hesitate to jump straight to enforcement! The waste in my house has been piling up for months, PSP hasn’t come to pick it up and I’ve never missed a payment infact I’ve paid for a full year ahead. I live in Lekki o mind you, if they aren’t coming to pick up the thrash in Lekki for months it’s not far fetched to assume they haven’t picked up the dirt in Abule Egba in years, but sanitation police is the solution the army of halfwits in Alausa can think of! Fucking idiots!
Lagos State Ministry of Transportation@lagosMOT1

LASG DECLARES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR WASTE DUMPING ON LAGOS ROADS, SET TO ESTABLISH WASTE POLICE The Lagos State Government has declared zero tolerance for waste dumping on all roads across the State and is set to establish a "Waste Police" to support environmental sanitation efforts. The decision followed the directive of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for the emergency evacuation of waste on Lagos roads. Consequently, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), have resolved to ensure that roads, motor parks and garages remain clean at all times. Speaking at a meeting held at the Ministry of Transportation on Saturday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said transport unions must ensure that their parks and garages are always kept clean and discourage indiscriminate trading and improper waste disposal within their areas of operation. He stated that the Ministry would commence enforcement activities to ensure that all motor parks and garages are properly maintained and that waste is disposed of appropriately. Reiterating that roads are not refuse dumps, the Commissioner further disclosed that the State Government would constitute a Waste Police made up of members of the transport unions across all local government areas. According to him, the Waste Police will monitor motor parks and their surroundings to ensure that refuse is not indiscriminately dumped. The Lagos State Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egubenoted that all over the world, road transport operators’ partners with government in monitoring transport infrastructure. He urged all parties present at the meeting to rise up to the clarion call of ensuring the challenge of waste disposal is surmounted. Hon. Sola Giwa who was also present at the meeting urged NURTW and RTEAN to take full responsibility as partners in waste control and management by ensuring total compliance at their various parks and garages. Also speaking, the Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, appreciated the transport unions for supporting the reintroduced environmental sanitation exercise and urged them to continue backing the initiative. He noted that waste management cannot be handled by LAWMA alone, which is why the Agency is partnering with the transport unions whose members are spread across the State and can help promote proper waste disposal practices at motor parks and their surroundings. Dr. Gbadegesin disclosed that LAWMA evacuates about 13,000 tons of waste daily across Lagos, while the transport unions move an estimated 22 million commuters every day. He stressed the need for collaboration between LAWMA and the unions to ensure proper waste disposal at motor parks and garages, while also discouraging indiscriminate trading in their parks and corridors. He reiterated that LAWMA would continue to work closely with the unions, leveraging their presence across the State to monitor roads, motor parks and surrounding communities, urging them to report cases of indiscriminate waste disposal for prompt action. Those present at the meeting included; Directors of both Ministry of Transportation and LAWMA, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation andLogistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, representatives of LAWMA Enforcement, NURTW and RTEAN. #LagosMOT

The Commissioner of Works in Lagos State, @tokunbo_wahab, is about the most effective. The delivery of his services is comparable to global standards. I do not say this from a myopic angle; I have seen behind the scenes of waste management in bigger cities like Houston and Denver. He is comparable to those standards given how Lagos State is. Those of us who are indigenous to the land have high confidence in him and would like to see him take more consequential responsibilities in Lagos State. If you don’t have global work experience, please stay out of this conversation even if your name is @GRVlagos. This is beyond politics. Signed: Engineer Baba Awori.
