@MeganOlshefski Fun fact: December 25 next year is the 75th anniversary of the Stone of Destiny's repatriation by Scottish students. Christmas Day is the only day when Stonehenge is closed to the public.

I’m Meg, a PhD researcher in Classics. I sell handmade jewellery inspired by my love of the ancient world using replicas of genuine Greek and Roman coins. All sales help support an early career scholar AND you get to own a beautiful thing! #ClassicsTwitter ko-fi.com/agameganon/shop

@ladamenoire @neuro_lou I'm not an autistic person but agree 100%. The degree of directness varies among neurotypical people with different cultural backgrounds. Interestingly, more egalitarian societies tend to be more direct which suggests that being vague is a strategy to excersise power.

@neuro_lou Neither side is inherently "wrong" in their communication, but neurotypical communication is usually inefficient, loaded, and frankly illogical. Things would be much less chaotic w/autistics in charge, and I will die on this hill.

@ArchaeologyGame Unfortunately, the use by many archaeologists mirrors the perspective of parts of the general public. As scientists, we have a responsibility to make clear that soil is not just "dirt" but an invaluable resource, the basis for all life on earth, and important for carbon storage.

@ArchaeologyGame This is lovely! great design and very educational. However, as a geoarchaeologist, I'm unhappy with the use of the term "soil". Soils are not deposited, don't have layers and soil horizons don't follow the rules of stratigraphy.

I'm going on my first ever archaeo dig next month! Seven days in total, except from the obvious outdoors kit, what kit would you recommend? I've got practical clothes, some hardy boots, and plenty of sunscreen 🌞

@R1100GSBlueNose @MatthewPope Tbf, most of this can be found in palaeogenetics papers with only minor contributions from archaeologists. It echoes the concept genes=ethnicity=material culture=language revitalised by geneticists over the last 10 or so years. Mr Kennedy isn't more ignorant than many of them.

@MatthewPope Someone who teaches politics and "global health" gets paid to write opinion piece about archaeology. I'm available to produce brain-farts about any number of subjects about which I know next to nothing, and for a VERY reasonable fee.

I really can't believe the term 'Ancient Britons' is still part of our national discourse. It still creeps in when we let it, a term from old, dusty encyclopaedias, meaningless and misleading out of it's time. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@RGKahlenberg @benmarwick @PACEA_Bordeaux Nope, it's for our Horiba analyzer. But only a small part is dedicated to transform the .csv from our machine into a single nice table. The rest can be used on other data with small input in the script probably (variable names etc.)

@PlastiqSoldier @xruiztru Okay, it's ONE of many outdated concepts that caused a lot of trouble when the world was dominated by the west. I don't know if it is an exclusively western thing, but it's definitely not universal.

@xruiztru In my opinion, it's asking people for their identity. You will get dataPOINTS. Converting points into areas reduces data quality and involves assumptions and decisions made by mapmakers, not the people who were asked for their identities.

@xruiztru A map is simply a way to plot data on a coordinate system with x and y axes. Datasets are collected following a - hopefully transparent - methodology. Your method will impact the results you get. So what's the best method to assess the distribution of ethnic groups?
