Back in Africa, I met in Cairo with Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt (@MFAEgOfficial), to present my vision and priorities for the United Nations and the central role of the continent as a partner in shaping its future. I underscored our shared commitment to international law and the UN Charter as the foundation for international peace and security. We also discussed Egypt’s valuable contribution to making peacekeeping more effective. #newUN

With great sadness, I join the people of Qatar in mourning the passing of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. My sincere condolences go to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Royal Family, and the people of Qatar. Sheikh Hamad’s vision and leadership transformed Qatar’s role on the regional and global stage, including as a partner in dialogue and mediation efforts to resolve some of the world’s most difficult conflicts. His legacy of statesmanship will be long remembered.

During my visit to Pakistan, I also had the pleasure of meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar (@MIshaqDar50). Our discussion focused on the situation in the Middle East, the urgent need to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and the opportunities that artificial intelligence can bring to the global development agenda. In Islamabad, I met with H.E. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif (@CMShehbaz), Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. We discussed the importance of multilateralism, regional peace and security, and the priorities of developing countries in the global agenda. I also welcomed Pakistan’s mediation efforts and thanked the country for its longstanding and consistent contribution to UN peacekeeping, including decades of service in some of its most demanding missions. hashtag#newUN Images: Government of Pakistan.

Delighted to welcome Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, candidate for the position of UN Secretary-General, to Islamabad today. In our meeting, I reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism, the UN Charter, and a stronger United Nations that advances peace and security, development, and human rights in a balanced manner. I also underscored the importance of accelerating the global development agenda and thanked Ms. Grynspan for her appreciation of Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to the UN and our recent efforts to promote regional peace.

Today, I returned to Riyadh, where I met with H.E. Waleed Elkhereiji (@W_Elkhereiji), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (@KSAmofaEN). We discussed the challenges facing the multilateral system and the current situation in the region. #newUN

Preventing conflicts saves what no budget can measure. That work is quiet and rarely makes headlines. It means talking with all parties, including those who disagree with us, and staying at the table when walking away would be easier. I have navigated many 'no's until I heard a 'yes'. That is the Secretary-General I intend to be. #newUN

"Reimagining Multilateralism: A Dialogue with UN Secretary-General Candidates" at the #JejuForum for Peace and Prosperity. Before the conversation began, a chorus of children reminded us whom we owe the effort of building a better world. Asked about diplomacy, I drew the line between two registers: in Sudan, visibility and public pressure for a cease-fire; in the Black Sea, negotiating the grain corridor with Russia, Ukraine and Turkey, quiet diplomacy that protected every actor at the table. That judgment, knowing which register a moment demands, is what UN reform needs. #NewUN @jejuforumpp

My meeting with @FMChoHyun, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, was another reminder of something I see often in my work: countries that have paid the real cost of war understand the value of peace better than most. The world has changed significantly, and the UN will be more effective the better it is prepared to tackle today's global challenges. #newUN
