We were delighted to be invited to a roundtable on #FreightCrime with @ukhomeoffice Minister of State (Policing & Crime) Sarah Jones MP, @transportgovuk Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State - Keir Mather MP & Chair of our APPG, @RachelTaylorMP. 👇 The roundtable follows years of RHA led campaigning on freight crime alongside our partners at @NaVCIS_UK. We were joined by RHA members LTS Global Solutions and other trade bodies to deliver a unified voice against this growing threat. Later this year we'll launch the APPG’s second report into freight crime, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Home Office, DfT and others to represent the road haulage industry’s voice.

The government is to begin trialling a new flagging system for incidents of freight crime - This marks a great step forward in our campaign to combat the issue. Without a dedicated freight crime reporting code in place – something the RHA has long campaigned for, we cannot accurately reflect the true national scale of this growing problem. We continue to call on decision-makers to support our industry and the police with the tools needed to tackle this crime nationally. Freight crime is organised crime.

We have submitted our recommendations to @hmtreasury in advance of the Autumn Budget. Meeting with Treasury officials, RHA Director of Public Affairs and Policy, @RHADeclan raised concerns over an increased tax burden on road transport businesses, and how a rise in fuel duty could cost UK households over £7bn! We’re calling on the Chancellor to: 1. Continue the freeze on fuel duty, 2. Introduce a fuel duty rebate linked to emissions reduction, 3. Freeze Vehicle Excise Duty for HGVs and the HGV Levy, 4. Introduce an essential user rebate for essential commercial vehicle operators, 5. Extend full expensing to leased assets to drive investment, 6. Make the HGV skills bootcamps a permanent option, 7. Allocate £6 million per annum of additional funding for the Police to tackle freight crime. Our Director of Policy, @RHADeclan, addressed police leaders and businesses across the retail and supply chain sector on freight crime and managing supply chain risks. Declan presented on the serious threat of freight crime to drivers, businesses and supply chains  with 2024 seeing a significant rise in the value of goods stolen from lorries – up nearly two-thirds to £111.5 million. Since 2020, losses have exceeded £1billion – a clear indicator that this problem needs urgent attention from policymakers. We are committed to working in partnership with the police, retailers, academics, and law enforcement personnel to develop strategies for managing supply chain risks effectively. Thanks to Paul Bessant and the Retail Risk On the Move team for bringing together a successful event.
