@DChadwickAuthor If the ratio of house seats gets closer to the ratio of the population of a state, thats the opposite of gerrymandering. Utah is more than 25% democrat, it seems pretty reasonable that they get the salt lake seat.

Why is Utah the only state that isn’t getting its bs gerrymandered districts overturned?

@danarchy @peteoxenham Smooth jaws, when you adjust to the general range of your fastener they hold better than any other tool ive used. The leverage that keeps the jaws parallel and perfectly in contact with the sides of a nut is impossible to replicate with an end wrench or crescent.

We had a great day touring the DESRI Steel Solar facility in Box Elder County and sitting down with local leaders and industry experts to see firsthand how Utah’s all-of-the-above energy approach is leading the way to meet our energy needs. We discussed the impact energy projects have on the communities they’re in, affordability for household energy costs, grid security, permitting reform, and more.

This was amazing. When I got off the operating table, I could already tell that I was able to see, with a bit of haziness. When I woke up from a short nap a few hours later, I could see everything very clearly. My eyes aren't dry, I don't feel any pain. I love modern medicine!

I am about to go under the SMILE laser to have my vision laser-corrected. The doctors are putting me on Valium (standard procedure, apparently), so I will not be posting again until it wears off and my eyes are ready for screens. Wish me luck!

The phenomenon of how egregiously bad the average mom-and-pop hardware store is really is not remarked upon enough. One of those things where I walk in wanting to support a small business and walk out hoping they get destroyed by amazon.

Robots are increasingly developing new capabilities. In this case, "Robodogs" have now learned to swim. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they could fly in the future and then be used on water, in the air, and on land.

Something wild is happening on the Sun’s hidden side right now.For days, the far side has been vomiting one colossal coronal mass ejection after another, an almost unbroken firehose of billion-ton plasma clouds blasting into space at millions of kilometers per hour. The dark limb of the Sun looks like it’s breathing fire in slow motion.Suspect number one? Our old beast, Active Region 4274, the same monster that hammered Earth with multiple X-class flares earlier this month. What’s left of that hyperactive sunspot factory is about to rotate back into view around December 1st, and if even a fraction of its former fury is still alive, we’re in for a showtime. This relentless barrage was caught in mesmerizing detail by the brand-new GOES-19 satellite’s CCOR-1 coronagraph. Watch the video and try not to feel small. The Sun isn’t sleeping. It’s just warming up on the backstage before walking back into the spotlight.

@DrGoobi @WorldDarkWeb In this particular case I think the article at the time said the rear impact from the truck destroyed the forward drive gear, and they were only partially able to get the vehicle to reverse. I was also so confused by the actions here but the vehicle was extremely disabled.

There's so many things the driver could have done, but regardless how you end up in such a situation your brain doesn't always function properly (speed forward, U turn, ram reverse harder). I want to call out the engineers who designed this. It is trivial to make that boom be resistant to breaking when hit from the front and have it easily break and yield in such a case if a driver is trying to escape by reversing into it. It is not an expensive AI safety system overhaul, or multi billion dollar safer railway bridge project. No, just a mechanism that allows the boom to yield and break from one direction only and not the other

@mattdykema At Starbase, they were tapping some holes for the launch infrastructure using a tap that was comically big. I didn't know that taps that big could be turned by hand. From Starship Gazer's video:

China has clearly noted the fact that WW2 didn't end until the combined bombing offensive focused on and destroyed the Axis powers' oil supplies. The war was unwinnable for Germany and Japan from mid 1942 on the basis of industrial production, but both had sufficient raw materials stockpiled to maintain production of weapons until about 1947. But in 1944, their oil supply was finally strangled and their war effort collapsed within months. China is currently far ahead on industrial production and maximizing the rate of the on-shoring of their energy production. Today, anyone could shut down the Straits of Malacca. By 2030, China will no longer depend on it. With enough solar power, they can internalize mass production of energy, oil, silicon, metals, and everything else they could possibly need. The US easily has the financial power to buy all the production of Chinese solar factories and deploy them in the US, to ensure our children have near infinite free energy. But we've decided to privilege the aesthetic value of 200 million acres of featureless lifeless uninhabitable desert over ensuring that American values ensure freedom for humanity in the eternal future light cone. What's the plan here? Just hand the next millennium to China on a silver platter?
Jesse Peltan@JessePeltan

Chinese solar generates 2x as much electricity as the demand of every data center on Earth combined. …and it’s doubling every 2 years. “How are we going to power AI?” is a problem of our own making.

We have 214 signatures on the discharge petition to force a vote on a bill to release the Epstein files. I’m 99% certain we’ll get 218. At that point @SpeakerJohnson may try to change the rules of the House, but chair of Rules Committee says she won’t! politico.com/live-updates/2…
