A FIFA-enforced thirty minute half-time to accommodate some dreadful Super-Bowl style show in the World Cup final is truly an abomination.

@tracewoodgrains @notadampaul Interesting. I haven’t noticed any change at all on this alt but I follow very few accounts. Even my main I’m quite happy with the ratio.

@notadampaul I'm following approximately 10x the number of people you are, which likely accounts for some of the discrepancy. I'm getting something like 95/5

@ouranometrian2 I’ve known a bunch of female track athletes including a couple Olympians. While not universal, they are often extremely proud of their physiques and not very body conscious. They should be, they put a ton of work into them.

@lucymarionbrown I read something like this about the UK roughly weekly. Maybe it already was really really bad. Maybe it’s too late.

@amy_timlin I remember my coach teaching us how, in theory, you can try to escape a fully locked triangle. But he also pointed out you made about a dozen mistakes to get there, spend your time on those. Against someone your size and skill level, sometimes you are just screwed

@tracewoodgrains I always wondered if they shouldn’t just give us a little slider. They could even just make it nonfunctional just to see what happens But apparently people don’t even use the following tab

ok now I’m going to be a bit contrarian and say that while I love my mutuals I don’t want to see only posts from them, which is what’s happening rn. having a bit of a mix between explore/exploit is genuinely good

@StarCobShipSon In general the feds have been much more cooperative with autonomous cars, spectrum, launch licenses, constellation approvals, etc It’s easy to imagine how things might have been different had Harris won

@GrantObi As in understand it there are no plans to make more and it would be a pretty big deal to start production again They are expensive to maintain and operate and Elon clearly wants to focus on Starship Even if they keep it around there’s way more projected demand than supply

Three weeks ago, the @Saronic Corsair brought two American aviators home. Last night, Corsairs hit Bandar Abbas in the first US sea drone combat strike. Look out for more news on Saronic soon; they aren’t resting on their laurels. Just getting going. Proud of this team 🇺🇲
U.S. Central Command@CENTCOM

Yesterday, using multiple one-way attack surface drones, CENTCOM forces successfully struck a submarine and ship maintenance facility in Iran. Three Corsair unmanned surface vessels hit the port at Bandar Abbas Naval Base, marking the first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations. Last night’s strikes degraded Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial shipping.

@Beastness501 @TheLaurenChen High protein can be helpful if you are weight training while also cutting and/or on a relative calorie restriction. Might have higher satiety, other minor benefits as well But this person is just obese. It’s fairly pointless for her

@TheLaurenChen Genuine question, why do obese mfs even bother with “protein” anything, like, there’s no point right? They’re obese for a reason, what’s the point of deluding yourself into believing you’re “eating healthy” when you’re shoving your face?

@SciGuySpace I feel like between the White House and NASA enough leverage can be applied/favors called in to keep Dragon running indefinitely. There are so many regulatory hurdles wrt to space flight, constellations, and AI surely some arrangement could be made

@tracewoodgrains @MichaelKiwi77 @StevesRawMind @it_sted Musk spent almost nothing getting Trump elected compared to his net worth Unless you count buying Twitter, which was rolled into Xai, which was rolled into SpaceX, which is now worth $1.9T and a frontier AI lab He’s one of the best allocators of capital in history

Musk was an extraordinarily good steward of his money until he poured a lot of it into getting Trump elected. he's not a great person, but as far as money stewardship goes, there were and sort of are few better. Bezos is a lot like him, and as such it's probably best he sticks to companies

You can tell quite a bit about someone by whether they think MacKenzie Scott or Jeff Bezos has been a more responsible steward of their billions.
Max Ghenis@MaxGhenis

.@mackenziescott has given away $26 billion. What did it buy in health? I built an interactive model from her own gift database: ~70,000 QALYs weighting each study by causal credibility, ~200,000 taking every effect at face value.

Life in the ICU: My favorite line during rounds is: "This doesn't make any sense" Case in point today from a surgical colleague: "Leave the chest tube until output is <10 mL/day" Fun fact: normal pleural fluid production is ~15-20 mL/day I guess that this chest tube will have to stay for ever...

What we desperately need, in fact, is to crush any impulse to destroy good things because they are not equally distributed. Good institutions do not just happen. Prestige is a lagging indicator of building something worth preserving. Cultural arsonists must be condemned.
Lincoln Restler@LincolnRestler

1 in 5 NYC public school students are Black, but at Stuy - our most prestigious high school - 3 of ~800 incoming Freshmen are Black. We urgently need state legislation to modify the admissions process. A single test should never be only factor deciding who gets in & who doesn’t.

@tracewoodgrains @LincolnRestler Of course not. I’m referring to students who are high performing academically but may not the strongest test takers. That doesn’t mean admitting any student who gets a low score on their test but it means not placing so much weight on the test. There can be a balance found.
