🎓 FAFSA is just the first step! After you submit your FAFSA and receive your financial aid package, you’ll need to accept your federal student loans through your college’s student portal—not on the FAFSA website. 💡 Be sure to accept only what you need to borrow!

This is a huge win for college savings! Thank you @RepMSDawson & @LaMountainfor31 for sponsoring this bill to protect 529 college savings plans, regardless of the state they're opened in. Families saving for their children's future deserve this protection.
Rhode Island House of Representatives@RIHouseofReps

The General Assembly has approved legislation introduced by @RepMSDawson and @LaMountainfor31 that would protect college savings plans. The bill was submitted on behalf of @RITreasury. The legislation would protect tuition savings plans from judicial attachment irrespective of the state in which the account was opened. “This bill provides equity in protecting #CollegeBound 529 accounts,” said Rep. Dawson. “If a parent is bankrupt and has to go through debtor proceedings, the child’s tuition assets shouldn’t be subject to those proceedings simply because they originated in another state. We should afford the same protections to everyone.” More information: rilegislature.gov/pressrelease/_…
