Do you know which three dudes specifically that are funding these projects? He’s getting paid about 10k to paint the mural. Did you know none of those dudes even asked Iryna’s parents permission to pay local artists to paint their daughter all over a Country she was violently killed in? Do you think that is ok? If you’re going to make comments on a subject, educate yourself first. This was a project to shine light on failed immigration policies that have caused harm within the US. I fully support it, as I had a family member killed by an illegal drunk driving.Do Better, Buddy.

Not to exploit the death of a refugee to push an agenda centered around fear and division. My values, like many of our neighbors in Providence, is to protect our immigrant neighbors from ICE’s state-sanctioned violence and supporting our refugee neighbors with authentic care.

A 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who fled war, only to be murdered on a train by a repeat criminal offender — and now her memorial is being erased because a politician found it uncomfortable. This is what socialism looks like. Government officials using their power to decide what art is acceptable, whose memory is worth keeping, and whose story gets told. I’m tired of socialist politicians deciding whose lives are worth remembering. Iryna deserved better in Charlotte. She deserves better in Providence. I stand for the memory of Iryna Zarutska. I stand with the artist. I stand with the property owner. And I stand for every Rhode Islander’s right to free expression — without government officials using their power to silence it. Iryna Zarustka mural in Providence, RI, is being removed following protest of it by Mayor Brett Smiley. The artist of the mural says owners of the business (The Dark Lady) in the building the mural is on asked that it be removed. Would they had asked if it was of George Floyd?
