250 years ago today, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations became the first of Great Britain's North American colonies to renounce allegiance to the British crown, and declare independence. Happy Rhode Island Independence Day!

We're not fed up enough, yet. There's still some distance to go before blue no matter who reaches rock bottom. To change anything entrenched, you have to be patient, and you need to present a compelling alternative vision.

@rhodeislander @1968F250CS It’s barely repairable. Genuine question, would you vote for the guy who get up snd just says “enough”, “F Peter N, F joe S, F McKee, lowers taxes, just simply not give an F” Are people fed up enough yet? Do we win? I’d represent the F politicians party. Or too rouge?

Just to remind you, New England didn't have a plantation slavery economy because New England is as relentlessly hostile to plantation scale agriculture (thin rocky soil, cold, etc.) as the south is favorable to it. New England banned slavery first because we didn't need it.

@rhodeislander @1968F250CS Well, one can clearly see Colonization indeed was one thing, but when the Brits came over and brought over slaves to be owned on plantations, well that one is clearly being overlooked here. So, there is this

@60sPsychJukebox Black Sabbath had it even worse with the reviewers than GFR because their sounds was even more, well, "Neanderthal" at the time. Sabbath just ignored the critics, but for whatever reason, it really needled GFR.

May 3 1971 -Grand Funk Railroad "consent" to meet with members of the press, who have never treated the group with respect despite their string of Gold records. 150 reporters were invited to New York's Gotham Hotel. Only 6 showed up. Grand Funk Railroad was disrespected by rock critics in the 1970s primarily because they were a "people's band" that bypassed traditional media channels, prioritizing raw, high-volume, blue-collar rock over the technical sophistication favored by contemporary music critics. While fans packed stadiums, critics considered their music simplistic, "dumb," and derivative of acts like Cream, according to critics at the time. Critics, especially at Rolling Stone and The New York Times, frequently panned the band for being "too loud" and lacking subtlety, often describing their style as "Neanderthal Rock".

@Mr_Considerate There's a 90s revival? Ace, because someone recently said my album was "a scrappy, headphone-tilting set of miniature psych experiments that feel beamed in from a dorm room somewhere between 1996 college radio and a sleep-deprived literature seminar." addtowantlist.com/index.php/2026…

No good will come of the 90s revival, except maybe pictures of very young indie rockers standing next to a distracted-looking J Mascis.

@1968F250CS We know this state has problems. Some of us even love it enough to want to make it better instead of simply moving away.

@rhodeislander LOL, and had to be extorted into ratifying the Constitution or be treated as a foreign nation after independence was won. In 2020 you were so ashamed of your heritage you dropped "and Providence Plantations" from your official name.🤡

@MarcNYC36 @1968F250CS It was, because it had nothing to do with plantation slavery; it meant "colony", which we absolutely were. Moreover, the people pitching the name change knew this, but rode a moral panic to get ignorant people to vote for the change all the same. It was a disgrace.

@1968F250CS @rhodeislander That's correct, it's the right thing to do to move onwards from past generations' disgusting ways with slavery. Is this a bad thing to renounce? Familiar with the concept of a plantation?

@punt_rd One of only two times that another guitarist played on a Black Sabbath album. The other was Eddie Van Halen who contributed a solo to the song "Evil Eye" a few years later.
