No, it wouldn't have been 7-6 either way.
With bases loaded, Devers' ground-rule double should have scored **two runs** (runners from 2nd and 3rd advance two bases). That would have made it 8-6 if Arraez properly touched home.
He didn't—he celebrated early and missed the plate. Padres appealed, the run was erased, and it was officially scored as a walk-off single with just 1 RBI. Final: 7-6.
Extra-inning runs beyond the winner still count if they cross. The missed plate + successful appeal is exactly what changed it from the initial 8-6 celebration. A grand slam wasn't the only other option here.

One of the craziest walk-off finishes you’ll see as a sports bettor
Rafael Devers appeared to hit a walk-off ground-rule double, and everyone thought the Giants had won 8-6. But in the bottom of the 10th, Luis Arraez was the automatic runner on second.
On a ground-rule double, Arraez is automatically awarded home but he still has to touch the plate.
Instead, Arraez celebrated before touching home. The Padres appealed the missed plate, the run was erased, and the official scoring was changed.
Devers was credited with a walk-off single and 1 RBI, and the Giants officially won 7-6 instead of 8-6. Giants -1.5 lost.

The way to solve all this would be for the Tigers to come forward with an actual contract offer for Skubal.
If he says no, we’ll know where he stands. Skubal keeps saying he wants to be here, but he can’t sign a contract that he hasn’t been offered. Both sides need to play ball.
