For instance, the ITBP commandant in Kanpur stood firmly for his jawan—a shining example of junior leadership—and the CRPF director general exemplified true senior leadership. This brings to mind two incidents involving the Indian Army. In November 2016, a car failed to stop at a checkpost, prompting security forces to open fire, resulting in the deaths of two youths. While the action was justified, the soldiers were unjustly arrested and faced numerous hardships. Northern Commander Gen Hooda later issued a public apology, abandoning his own troops on a national stage.
