Turnout in today's #SalemMA elections as of 10 a.m. is 6% city-wide, with Ward 2 showing the highest turnout so far and a few precincts competing for last place.

As election results are shared, a fact about Mississippi: it was the very last state to ratify the 19th Amendment & didn’t do so until 1984! Yes - 1984 - Only 39 years ago.😔 The US is 71st in the world in women’s representation - this stat should be the focus. #WhenWomenVote

@RepMoulton @youthpwrproject Another step: advance 'voting rights regardless of age.' Confer dignity and status of voter to under-18s. Let electeds be rewarded with ballots for working for under-18s, for responding to their voices. Their vote is their voice. Lift every voice.

We need to tackle the children’s mental health crisis head-on. Passing my bill with @youthpwrproject to recognize it as a national crisis is an important first step, as is working with healthcare providers to discuss how to support kids and expand care to treat those in need.

Let’s talk about co-regulation - which, in the words of psychologist Jennifer Nurick, happens when “one nervous system calms another.” This video couldn’t be a lovelier example. Our hero has accidentally closed a door on her fingers. If you’ve ever done it you know it’s a special kind of pain. She’s understandably distraught. But mom is on the case. Watch how she coaches and manages her daughter’s response, giving her guidance on how to calm herself - both physically and emotionally. Take a deep breath. Say, “I’m okay.” Say, “I am strong.” Once she has her daughter talking, instead of crying (if even just barely), consider how skillfully she does what comes next. She keeps her daughter talking…extending the series of affirmations and allowing for additional time and space from the accident. Over the course of just 40 seconds mom deftly manages to shift the whole topic of the conversation. It begins with “I am hurt” and ends with “I am adored.” That’s some gold medal “momming” right there. 🥇 Never forget that as young children grow and learn, many of their most important skills abilities begin in a shared space - as partnerships with caring adults and more knowledgeable peers. What begins as co-regulation here will, in time become a set of tools that this sweet little one can employ on her own. What a lucky little girl. —— This is the part where you’ll notice that I ALWAYS credit and uplift the original creators of the videos I write about. In this case I’ve tried really hard, but have been unable to ascertain the original source. If you know it, please share so I can properly attribute to this absolutely top notch mother.

.@RepMaxwellFrost and I are both Christians against #ChristianNationalism. Our exchange today during a congressional hearing was one of the most powerful moments I've ever witnessed from a Christian lawmaker affirming the separation of church and state.

@APPAM_DC hi from left field! students: a way to make public services work for all is to ensure that electoral processes include all, and a major hindrance to that is laws that exclude under-18-year-olds from developing as voters. vote18 laws are counterproductive! hear children's voices!

@KCOU_MN @NStarProsperity political will to fund childcare 🤔might be inadequate *because* the elective franchise excludes all under-18s. we're expecting elected officials to make policies that would result in intergenerational injustice without supplying those elected officials with votes from under-18s?

Yes! It's true. MN families cannot afford childcare. And it's true that we can fix that #mnleg! "There was money in seven bills to deal with child care, but we still are hearing 'We can't afford child care. We can't afford child care,'" Dziedzic said. startribune.com/ramstad-legisl…

Families need affordable child care NOW! There's so much work to do to make sure our kids have access to quality care, providers are able to make ends meet, and parents are able to afford it. #mnleg

New polling shows 62 percent of Americans believe that addressing the child care cliff should be a top priority for federal policymakers. Working parents and providers are depending on Congress to #SaveChildcare. → bit.ly/3SrttEW
