Two years after starting our EW greenhouse experiment we have dismantled 320 of 400 pots and we will continue to monitor 80. Over the next weeks we will build the next set of pots while doubling the size of the experiment. For EW science! Onwards!

Advancing CDR requires good data. In the area of Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW), look no further than Dirk Paessler’s Carbon Drawdown Initiative wherein Dirk and Ralf Steffens work to measure how fast CO2 is removed under different soil conditions. With the help of their robot army of flux meters, they are creating a database with the data that is needed. Enjoy this snippet or, perhaps watch Legion 44 + remove some carbon while you are at it. legion44.world

Preparing our poster for #AGU24 conference using… Bavarian beer! 🍻 Our poster focuses on our CO₂ fluxmeters and how we compared them to current "state of the art" devices. (Poster Code B11L-1475) Meet us on Monday (Dec 12th) from 08:30-12:20 EST in the Convention Center, Hall B-C (Poster Hall). CTO @RSteffanides and Head of Science @JensHammes will be at @theAGU Conference 2024.

@energybants …and did your „study“ also find, that none of the companies which ran those reactors said: „let’s start them again, it’s really worth it!“ ? 🙄

BREAKING: We find that Germany can restart 3 nuclear reactors by 2028 and 9 reactors by 2032. The engineering and economics work. Two-thirds of the public want it. Only political will is needed. Here are four detailed graphics from our new report that summarize the facts.

Three more CDR startups from our portfolio have been selected by Frontier Climate in their fourth round of carbon removal purchases, bringing our portfolio to 6 Frontier winners. Congratulations Flux, Planeteers and Silica! We went through this process ourselves two years ago, and it is one of the most selective CDR processes you can imagine! With this work Frontier is pushing the whole industry forward, noone goes through this process with improving! frontierclimate.com/writing/fall-2…

@_david_ho_ @ConservationSP @ConservationOrg @SaveTheWaves @csuci Not all breaks associate with coastal C. Plenty of beach breaks or other xeric coasts out there (not that these shouldn't be conserved). Surfing also matters bc it can act like an umbrella species (garnering support for stewardship) - programs are already doing this (see thread)

@_david_ho_ Standards usually have a pool of credits that act as insurance against this. I don't know about implementation in this case, but in principle that's fine. Is this so hard to understand? Should we stop trying to boost the forest sink whenever some of the stands might burn?

Last week we did a deep dive with a camera into our water cistern. Some lab parameters in our irrigation water surveillance were a bit unusual and we needed to check if there is something in the tank that could be the reason. The video looks a bit like the Titanic will show up in any next moment… 😀

Our XXL Lysimeter experiment for #enhancedweathering is still alive and kicking. At least once a year we need to clear the XXL lysimeters and surroundings. Now the experiments are in their 3rd year! A report with data from the first 2 years is in the making!

Greenhouse Adventures: A journey through unexpected obstacles (Part 2) Keeping a long-term monoculture greenhouse experiment with hundreds of pot experiments alive and working over 2-3 years is not as easy as one could think. In our latest blog post, we share the interesting journey of combating various pests like powdery mildew, thrips, and aphids which all have tried to wreck our EW greenhouse experiment. For every possible intervention we must consider the potential effects on our weathering experiments. Discover how we used a natural raw milk treatment to successfully eradicate powdery mildew, leaving our plants healthy and thriving. Learn about our creative approach to managing thrips with lacewing larvae and predatory mites. Despite some initial challenges, our efforts paid off, resulting in a significant reduction of these pesky pests. Finally, read about our battle with aphids and how ladybug larvae became our new allies. These tiny, beneficial insects are helping us keep aphids at bay, ensuring our plants remain vibrant and healthy. Click the link to dive into our full story and see how we're keeping our greenhouse green and pest-free! Link in the next post of this thread

@RobertHoglund @StefanFSchubert I don’t think so. People rather would like the hand rule to change… and the VAR decisions to be quicker. It works really well in a lot of other sports very precision and accuracy is needed.

@StefanFSchubert You are missing the point. People want VAR to disappear and let it up to the judge. These "goal checks" destroys the game. You can't even celebrate after a goal. And people want the offside rule to change.

This is so dumb. The line has to go somewhere, and it's far better to apply it without exceptions than to do it "leniently" - that just opens up for bias and drama. (This argument generalises to other lenient applications of all sorts of rules in society.)
Fans against VAR@FansAgainstVAR_

If you justify this decision you are an enemy of football. VAR has to go, the laws have to become more lenient on offside. The game is finished as we knew it.
