Starting to get a sense of panic which I'm struggling to manage. I guess it's time to start writing again.

Help me give my reading a modern D&I refresh. .In the last 15 years what books might appeal to a fan of: 1. Master and Margarita 2. Tin Drum 3. American Psycho 4. Everything is Illuminated 5. Darkness at Noon 6. Confederacy of Dunces 7. Our man in Havana 8. Perfume #reading

#amwriting in switching my novel from 1st person to 3rd person limited, I've removed 10,000 words from what was a 90,000 word manuscript. It's been a really useful exercise, editing out the flab, killing darlings and getting to better understand plot and characters.

I have a horrific story to share. I sauteed broccoli for dinner with extended family. We were almost done. I was about to eat my last bite. And I saw a caterpillar. I went to the pan. More caterpillars. By then it was too late. So, I said nothing. I fed my family caterpillars 😭

#amwriting after a long time of kidding myself I'm switching a manuscript from 1st person to 3rd person. It's hard work but becoming a pleasure. The manuscript is certainly improving and I'm enjoying my story and characters very much.

👏 "Show don't tell" is a terrible piece of writing advice; there isn't a single writer worth reading who is not a master of "telling" i.e. writing compelling narrative exposition. Dune?! LOTR?! Dickens? Austen? So much excellent, beautiful telling! GO FORTH AND TELL

We’re absolutely delighted. You know what would be amazing too? If loads of other companies became aware that they too can now opt out. Not to stifle debate, it’s important different views are well argued and considered but just to stop the sheer level of misogynistic, hatey, racisty bile that spews forth for clicks and cash. Business can easily now Stop. Funding. Hate and it’s a great thing that needs sharing far and wide.

@DMiliband There seems to have been an assumption that poor countries (Eastern block, southern Europe etc) would always remain poor relative to us. But these countries are often poor because of politics. Unfortunately Brexit may soon mean we become poor relative to them.

Important dose of reality here. We should not despair but we need to end the delusions. There are three big blocs in the global system, and then a series of transactional players. Britain is serious danger of being adrift.

England is returning to dark periods in its past. I don't think Just Stop Oil are right to do half the stuff they do. But arresting and locking up protestors is a frightening direction for any country, no matter what the protest is for.
