@rickygervais Hats off to you sir - what a wonderful gesture. The animals can’t thank you themselves but this will make a huge difference to the lives of thousands and thousands of them. Have a brilliant Christmas and 2026.

@JohnSwinney Your post is a great endorsement of the union - and it’s very clear that the rating of the debt would tumble if we moved towards independence. And that’s before taking account of what effect your pie-in-the-sky currency plan…

@GillianBowditch @thetimes I was sorry to read in the ST that you’ve written your last column - after an impressive 25 years. I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed reading your pieces over the many years. I’ve agreed with most of your points but even when I haven’t, they have always been well written.

After 36 years working for @thetimes and 25 writing the Scottish column in the Sunday Times, today is my last piece. To the wonderful colleagues and editors who championed my career and to the insightful and supportive readers, a heartfelt thank you.

@afneil Labour must be great - all the doctors and nurses work for free, in buildings that cost nothing, with medicines and equipment that doesn’t cost a penny. Can they do the same magic to make defence and welfare spending ‘free’?!
English

@islewear hello - my wife, Samantha Rennie, placed an order with you on 15 Feb for a Selkie Pendant, through Scottish Island Gifts (order no. 98385). Payment has been taken but we await the item. Sam and I have emailed multiple times but no response-when will we receive the item?
English

@afneil Yes - it just took Jeff Bezos turning up at Trump’s inauguration and next day, Yvette Cooper is calling out Amazon for selling the knife. Easier blaming Amazon than confronting what may actually be the problem.
English

The idea Amazon is to blame for selling the knife shows that this government from the PM and Home Secretary down will go to any lengths to deflect the blame for what happened. If for some reason Amazon had said no all he had to do was go into the kitchen drawer. It is absurd and too much of the media has fallen for this spin.

@afneil Do you think this was really the best story they would run with?
English

@Fortnums we were supposed to received 4 deliveries from you today. Only one arrived - and that’s incomplete. We have spent hours today trying to call (and tried requesting a call-back) and live web chat, but you don’t answer/call/respond. This is hopeless!

@DanNeidle I don’t know too much of the detail Dan - as a Rangers fan, it was a time to hide behind the cushion - but as a real estate lawyer with some tax knowledge, I’ll assist if I can.
English

Quick favour - looking for a Rangers fan who followed the Big Tax Case in the 2010s, and is happy to talk about it. DMs are open, or email dan ATSIGNTHINGY taxpolicy.org.uk

@ScotRail Horrible situation for you to have to deal with but as a passenger on the 5:30 from Queen St, just wanted to say that your guard - Jack - was a star and couldn’t have done a better job in very difficult circumstances. ⭐️
English

@haveigotnews I thought you did satire and comedy? Don’t challenge the establishment, eh?
English

@MerrynSW Spot on - although I don’t think she cared whether she was better than Boris : all that mattered was she was different.
English

Esp in Scotland. Longer closures. More mad mask stuff. So many damaged children. All to feed the vanity of a woman who wanted to be better than Boris. Something most people manage without the hurting kids bit.
Professor Karol Sikora@ProfKarolSikora
Prolonged school closures did immense damage to millions of children - many of whom are still feeling the effects today. Inflicting incredible harm on the poorest and most vulnerable children in society. A mistake that must be properly acknowledged. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…

@Edinburgh_CC - this is the mess created and left behind on Comiston Drive by your food recycling bin collectors. Watched them do it and drive off (as you’ll see in the picture)
