Deeply saddened to learn of the death in hospital yesterday of composer, bandleader and pianist Mike Westbrook, three weeks after his 90th birthday. Guardian obituary to follow, detailing the achievements of one of the greatest figures in the history of British & European jazz.

A really good piece in today’s Observer by ⁦@tjaldred⁩ on cricket and the coal mines. I’m going to have to buy the new Wisden to read the full version. (In Nottinghamshire in the ‘60s I used to play against colliery and miners’ welfare teams; always competitive.)
