Anlässlich des jüngsten Statements von Bundespräsident Steinmeier – „Der Ramadan gehört zum religiösen Leben unseres Landes“ – musste ich unwillkürlich an dieses Bild aus dem Jahr 2016 denken. Ich bin eine iranische Frau. Ich habe meine Heimat verlassen, um den unmenschlichen Gesetzen der Islamisten zu entkommen, die sich nur durch militärische Waffengewalt an der Macht halten. Ich bin gegangen, um als Frau kein Mensch zweiter Klasse mehr zu sein; damit ich endlich als freier Mensch aufatmen kann. In diesen Tagen herrscht im Iran Krieg, weil die Mullahs um jeden Preis an der Macht bleiben wollen. Seit Jahrzehnten werden Frauen dort systematisch unterdrückt. Wenn sie gegen den Hidschab-Zwang protestieren, lautet die Antwort: Erblindung durch gezielte Schüsse, Säureangriffe, Vergewaltigung, Folter und Mord. Dabei sehe ich dieses Foto vor mir: Wie Herr Steinmeier mit den Vertretern dieses Regimes lächelnd am Iftar(Fastenbrechen)-Tisch saß. Er speiste mit den Repräsentanten eines Regimes, das den Holocaust als „Märchen“ bezeichnet und dessen Slogan „Tod Israel“ lautet. Seit diesem Foto ist ein Jahrzehnt vergangen. Die Welt scheint irgendwie dieselbe geblieben zu sein, doch wie viele Menschen wurden seitdem im Namen dieser Ideologie im Iran hingerichtet? Wie viele Angehörige haben ihr Lächeln für immer verloren, während die Täter auf der Weltbühne weiter lächeln durften? Ich frage mich voller Sorge: Hat der Bundespräsident seit damals ein tieferes Bewusstsein für die Realität des Islamismus entwickelt? Der Gedanke an die Antwort lässt mich um meine Zukunft in dieser Gesellschaft bangen. Ich habe Angst davor, auch hier wieder zu einem Menschen zweiter Klasse degradiert zu werden. Ich frage mich: Wo auf dieser Welt gibt es noch genug Luft zum Atmen, ohne dass mir wieder jemand den Fuß auf die Kehle setzt? Religionsfreiheit und Vielfalt sind wichtige Werte. Aber ist denjenigen, die diese Werte predigen, die Sicherheit und die Freiheit von Frauen und Kindern ebenso wichtig? Können sie wirklich radikale Ideologien von gelebtem Glauben unterscheiden? Haben sie die Kompetenz, über Schicksale zu entscheiden, deren wahre Tiefe sie offensichtlich nicht begreifen? Die Antworten auf diese Fragen machen mir Angst…

This is unhinged. The President of the United States went on a late-night rant, making clear he believes the Supreme Court justices he appointed owe him their loyalty and should always rule in his favor. The President of the United States is openly attacking the independence of the judiciary, the very institution that stands between every American and unchecked executive power. Courts don’t work for the President. They work for the Constitution. And a president attacking the judiciary for doing its job is telling you he believes he is above the law.
