Happy International Day of the Midwife 2026! Today we celebrate the proud history of midwives and the beautiful meaning behind the very word itself: “with woman”. From Old English, “midwife” comes directly from mid (meaning “with”) + wif (meaning “woman”). It has always described the woman (or occasionally a man) who stands with a woman through pregnancy, labour and birth; not directing, not controlling, but supporting, empowering and bearing witness. That philosophy of “being with woman” remains at the heart of midwifery to this day. Here in the UK, that tradition runs deep. Long before hospitals became the norm, British women gave birth at home, supported by experienced local midwives who learned their craft through generations of practice. The landmark Midwives Act of 1902 changed everything: it was the first law in the world to regulate and protect the title “midwife”, set national standards of training, and establish the Central Midwives Board. For the first time, midwifery became a recognised, accountable profession across England and Wales (with similar developments following in Scotland and Northern Ireland). District midwives on bicycles became a familiar sight, delivering safe care in homes and communities right up until the creation of the NHS in 1948. Even when male midwives and doctors began to enter the birthing room in the 17th and 18th centuries, UK midwives fought to keep their independent role; and they succeeded. Today the UK’s midwives, proudly represented by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), remain central to the NHS. They provide continuity of care, home-birth support, and expertise that respects women’s choices while keeping safety at the forefront. This year’s global theme; One Million More Midwives, could not be more urgent or relevant to the UK. We know that when midwives are properly supported and enabled to work to their full scope, they save lives, reduce unnecessary interventions, and improve outcomes for mothers and babies. Yet we still face shortages, rising workloads and the need for more midwives to meet growing demand. The evidence is clear: investing in midwifery is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve maternal and newborn health worldwide. So today, whether you’re a midwife, a mother, a partner, a student, or simply someone who values women’s rights and safe birth, say thank you to the midwives who supported you or your loved ones. To every midwife in the UK and around the world: thank you for carrying forward that ancient promise. You are not just healthcare professionals. You are the guardians of a tradition as old as humanity itself, and the future of respectful, safe maternity care depends on you. Happy International Day of the Midwife 2026! #WithWoman #Midwive

Every major party floats ‘when in power’ policies. It’s vision, not fantasy. Labour, Tories, Greens all do it. Scrapping unaffordable Net Zero (like Reform advocates) isn’t radical: UK bills spiked, factories closed, grid wobbles from intermittent renewables and subsidies. We need cheap, reliable baseload (nuclear, gas, North Sea) for prosperity, not virtue signalling targets.

World Asthma Day 2026 – Let’s Talk Asthma! Asthma is a common but serious long-term lung condition. The airways become inflamed and narrow, making it harder to breathe. Symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, a tight chest, and coughing; especially at night or after exercise. It’s not contagious, it’s not “just a childhood thing,” and with the right treatment most people live completely normal, active lives. There is no cure, but it is highly controllable. The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) was founded in 1993 to reduce asthma’s impact worldwide. The very first World Asthma Day was held in 1998 alongside the first World Asthma Meeting in Barcelona. Since then it has grown into a global event in over 100 countries, shining a light on education, prevention, and better care In the UK (Asthma + Lung UK data): Around 7.2 million people have asthma; that’s roughly 8 in every 100 people. It affects 1 in 11 children (about 1 million). Tragically, four lives are lost every day to asthma attacks; yet two out of every three of these deaths are preventable with better basic care. Globally (GINA & WHO): Over 260–363 million people live with asthma. It causes around 450,000 deaths each year, 96 % of them in low and middle-income countries where access to simple inhaled medicines is still limited. Most of these deaths are preventable. Common myths – BUSTED “Asthma is only for kids / you grow out of it” → It can start at any age and usually stays for life (though symptoms can be well controlled). “People with asthma can’t exercise or play sport” → Exercise is great for your lungs! With the right plan, people with asthma become Olympic athletes. “Inhaled steroids are addictive or dangerous” → They are safe, non-habit-forming, and the most effective way to control inflammation. “It’s all psychological” → Asthma is a physical condition involving airway inflammation and triggers like pollen, pollution, cold air, or stress. What to do if someone is having an asthma attack (NHS / British Red Cross advice) ✅Sit them upright in a comfortable position – don’t let them lie down. ✅Help them use their reliever inhaler (usually blue) – one puff, wait 30–60 seconds, repeat up to 10 puffs if needed. Use a spacer if they have one. ✅ Stay calm and reassure them – panic makes it worse. ✅ If no improvement after 5–10 minutes, or they’re getting worse (can’t speak, blue lips, exhausted): CALL 999 immediately. ✅ Keep giving the inhaler while you wait for help. ✅ If they don’t have their inhaler – call 999 straight away. Most attacks are mild and ease quickly with the inhaler. Severe ones need urgent medical help; better safe than sorry. This year’s focus is simple: everyone with asthma deserves access to anti-inflammatory inhalers. They save lives and stop symptoms before they start. If you or someone you know has asthma: Get an annual review (even if you feel fine). Ask for a written asthma action plan. Check your inhaler technique, it makes a huge difference. Let’s close the care gaps together. Support Asthma + Lung UK. Breathe easier. Live fuller. Spread the knowledge. #WorldAsthmaDay #AsthmaAwareness

I don't have mental health issues due to living alone. But I'd bet my bottom dollar I'd have more than just mental health issues if I opened up my home to a refugee. I am confident that I am speaking on behalf of many of my peers when i say: "GTF outta here". These people have sh*t for brains. #FigForPM #CommonSensePrevails

UK: “About 8 million people live alone many could welcome a refugee into their home.” Government think tanks and the radical Left are now openly pushing to house asylum seekers inside private British homes. This was always the next step. They opened the borders. They filled the streets. Now they want them in your living room.

Local communities should not be dictated to from the top. They should be represented by people who understand the area and care enough to serve it properly. That is why Advance UK is asking voters in Clacton to back Tony Mack and Lynette Grimwood.

Prior to the incident , Reform UK Colne Valley Branch predicted they had lost "over 250" signs from lampposts across all five Colne Valley Wards in a previous Facebook post. In the UK, it is a criminal offence to remove or damage legitimate election posters. West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for more information regarding the alleged incident. examinerlive.co.uk/news/local-new…

GPs ‘force the elderly to book online in breach of NHS rules’ - Critics say some practices are operating with impunity and should lose funding. GP surgeries are forcing elderly patients to book appointments online, against NHS rules, a survey suggests. As many as one in three people aged 75 or over surveyed by a charity said they were made to submit online forms to see a doctor. This is despite the GP contract requiring all practices to allow patients to book over the phone or in person if they prefer. The Re-engage “Care On Hold” Survey (926 responses, aged 75+, England-focused data) ◾️33% can only book online. ◾️Preferred/used methods: Phone 68%, In-person 21%, Online 10%. ◾️70% do not have equipment/knowledge to book online without support. ◾️63% say online systems increase loneliness and isolation. ◾️36% feel “cut off” from care; some no longer try to book. Impacts: Delayed/untreated conditions, self-treatment, increased use of emergency services. NHS England GP Contract Rules (current as of 2025/26) ◾️Practices must make directly bookable appointments available online and by phone and in person. ◾️Online systems must remain open all core hours (since Oct 2025). ◾️Patient preference for booking method should be recorded at registration. ◾️No replacement of traditional methods permitted. #selection-3539.0-3559.143" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">archive.ph/eF5uL#selectio

Councillors do fight immigration, free speech & sovereignty. They raise them in council chambers, media and campaigns, building the national platform that leads to MPs. No party gets MPs without starting local. Denton by-election (Feb 2026): 7th in a safe Labour seat is a test run for a brand new party not a verdict. 10 defectors? Proof principled people are choosing Advance UK over Reform/others on the big issues. 11 voices today beat zero yesterday.

Except that councillors don’t fight immigration, free speech or sovereignty. You need MPs for that. And Advance put their best man forward in Denton. He came 7th. No Advance councillors were elected by people who voted for Advance. 10 of them defected, 1 was suspended from other parties. That doesn’t indicate people support Advance it just means that those councillors wanted a change of employer. 11 councillors sitting on several different councils. Think potholes, bin collections and libraries. And one vote on a council which has a majority of another party is like trying to hear a pin drop.

No one claimed they control any councils. 11 elected councillors (via defections & local wins) for a party launched in 2025 is real grassroots momentum not “random” or “woopee doo.” One ex-Reform? Voters choosing principle. A “drop in the ocean” out of 19k today? Every challenger starts small. Advance UK is building the team that fights immigration, free speech & sovereignty.

@RachelJack61489 @mrsdepp_head @grok Are you thinking they control 11 councils? They don’t. They have 11 random councillors dotted here and there, 1 of which was expelled from Reform. Advance don’t have control of any councils. 11 councillors. Out of 19000 total councillors. They are literally a drop in the ocean.

11 councillors is real local representation (gained by defections), not “woopee doo.” Local elections are this Thursday; even if numbers shift, building from the ground on immigration, free speech & sovereignty beats gatekeeping. Advance UK is growing the team that challenges the establishment.

Why do you need to add an insult Annabel? That says more about you than me. My statement was my tongue in cheek opinion, so “fact checking” it with Grok is ludicrous. So Ben Habib is a self-appointed leader of 11 councillors. Woopee doo! This time next week it may be none. Who will he lead then? I stand by my statement, no disrespect Grok. 😊
