@Impitoyable @Aesthetic_City there are many cases where it is not only inspiration but straight up recreation . and not only that, but many use your previous argument to reject any sort of formalist inspiration beyond the rectangle

@Radhiqe @Aesthetic_City Quoting is not aping. Drawing inspiration from earlier styles is not creating counterfeit copies. The Gothic Revival of the Palace of Westminster serves what could *only* be a large-scale Victorian public building. No one is going to mistake it for a Medieval abbey.

@Aesthetic_City Things have moved on. We don’t mark the present by aping styles of the past. When Guimard was designing his Paris metro entrances they were radically new, not counterfeit versions of past designs.

@MikeMcBrideFLA @dieworkwear what about a light shirt is martyrdom? a tshirt shorts and flip flops is more like that, you're sacrificing any possible beauty from a fallible body ...

@dieworkwear Ehhh, just wear shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops, and tell people who don’t like it to piss off. Nobody owes anybody capitulation to outdated fashion standards rooted in martyrdom and self hatred. Be comfortable.

Hard to dress well in the summer, but I like how men dressed in Greece, Vietnam, and Cuba during the 50s/ 60s. Many had camp collar shirts with two pockets. When shirts are made from thin, sheer fabrics, pockets serve two purposes: carry things and prevent you from feeling nude.

According to the Randy Shilts book, AIDS arrived with full force on US shores on July 4, 1976, America’s 200th birthday, infecting a tight knit group of cool downtown gays during Bicentennial celebrations in New York. Doctors were able to reconstruct the timeline through field interviews with victims. This Saturday the nation turns 250. I wonder what nature holds in store for us this time.

Most Rus langauge posts on here are by angry, self hating outcasts. Very similar to Americans who use Bluesky. Most Russians use Telegram. Exceptions are people who draw [or something similar] and want to share their work internationally.

There’s no plaque or anything marking the event. Though there is a McDonald’s, as you can see in the photo. It’s the same for Hitler’s bunker in Berlin. I was there a few years ago—nothing to see. They filled it up with concrete and now there’s just a parking lot over it.

This—Piazzale Loreto, in Milan—is where they hung Mussolini’s body in April 1945. He was actually executed near the Swiss border, but the corpse was displayed here bc it’s where 15 “partisans” had recently been executed by the Nazis. (The Duce feared his guys would pay for this.)

I don’t want to have deep meaningful conversations on my commute I want to get where I’m going I don’t know what people expect. I think some people imagine the city as one endless flaneur It’s a place to get things done

Alcohol is more of an introvert’s drug than people give it credit for. Basically every other drug requires access to dense and relatively insular social networks. Booze? Just go to the store man

@DIAS I always told my Greek friends that Greece is practically a Slavic country. Modern Greeks themselves only larp the ancient Greeks. I don't think I've ever pissed them off that much. A typical Slavic outburst.

People who enjoy lying for fun often overestimate their skill. The world's bartenders and taxi drivers are forced to nod and smile at people who think they're being quirky for doing high-school improv with themselves
