@davidlewistn Yes. I think that’s why LSU hired him again. He went to the tourney there a lot more than most of their other recent coaches. I’d contend they know exactly what they’re getting.

@JudgeBobOrr NIL killed Cinderella is really just nostalgia for a system where players couldn’t get paid and had no mobility. There’s more equal footing today in college sports than ever before. Blue bloods have to adjust too. Or else.

While I think UNC made the correct decision in deciding to go with a new coach, these numbers don't reflect the enormous changes to college basketball operations w/ NIL and open Portal over the past 5 years, that HD had to deal with and prior UNC coaches didn't.
Isaac Schade@isaacschade

The UNC Standard: As painful as it can be to have to move on, the results simply weren't there. • 41 NCAA Tournaments in modern era (1985-present) • 4-seed or better Pre-Coach Davis (1985-2021): 72.2% (26 of 36) • 4-seed or better Coach Davis era (2022-2026): 20.0% (1 of 5)

Of course, no “tampering,” no “poaching”…just coincidence LSU fired its coach and hired NC State’s within minutes. The USF coach warned other programs to “stay away from my players.” Then, HE was gone…so, nobody had to stay away from HIM. The double standard is laughable. Let’s stop complaining about player choice when coaches leave at the first chance for a better situation for themselves.

NC State AD Boo Corrigan on Will Wade 👀 "Tuesday night, we talked about everything in the program... I asked him what we needed to be competitive. From there, as far as the resignation, it was an email that we received from his agent." "I'd commiserate with (fans), in terms of feeling lied to. And I'd let them know that I'm as surprised as they are by what's gone on." 🎥: @ABC11_WTVD

@silvopasturist A few problems here. I did not say anything about N fertilizer, only about the very high rates of compost being advised. So the idea that "we forgot" the difference between them is false, you made it up.

farmers: don’t plant rye it’ll tie up your nitrogen. Also farmers: omg you put compost in your garden you’re going to leach out tons of nitrogen. The conversation over fertilizer has gotten so stupid we forgot the difference between compost and anhydrous ammonia.
Andrew McGuire@agronomistag

Exhibit A: Yesterday's AP article tells gardeners to apply 3-4" of compost to the soil. Do the math: 3" is about 100 tons/acre with ~2000 lb of total N per acre. Any farmers out there doing that? apnews.com/article/health…

@JudgeBobOrr I’m old enough to remember in 1965 when St Dean was hung in effigy after getting blown out on the road against Wake Forest. Also in the early days when many Duke boosters and fans wanted coach K gone.

Yeh, got to assume that the AD and company have a pretty good idea who's coming. Can't imagine firing HD with no replacement essentially locked in.
bomberjacket@bomberjacket5

@JudgeBobOrr Counter point, if you're going to fire an alum-coach you need to actually be sure the replacement is a significantly better coach. Some of these names probably don't qualify.

Kentucky has organized and is operating its athletics department in a way that acknowledges where college athletics are at, and that prepares it for where they are headed. Others will definitely follow. As noted, the changes are all behind the scenes. Fans see no change.

A $22 mil MBB NIL budget. A massive FB coaching buyout. A $141 mil loan. An athletic department that is now an LLC. What's going on at Kentucky? Short answer: It wants to be a top spender in college sports. Longer answer is free to read via @TheAthletic. nytimes.com/athletic/71451…

@SethDavisHoops This can happen when leaders of organizations take themselves too seriously. That and fear of failure and if/when it fails become defensive by not understanding the old model is obsolete. Re: Sears, K-Mart, Eastman Kodak reactions to Amazon- mobile phones. IBM-PC’s

Not sure I've seen many situations like the one that is happening at North Carolina regarding Hubert Davis. My understanding is the administration asked Hubert if he wants to continue, and he said emphatically yes. To let it go on for this long with no decision is not fair to anyone. At this point it would be very very difficult to bring him back. He would enter next season under a huge cloud. Usually the best strategy in this situation is to rip the Band-Aid off and make a decision one way or the other. To let it linger for this long is unnecessary and healthy. Here's hoping we get a decision on this one way or another very very soon.

@WinterSportsLaw Many in the same crowd yearns for the good ole days of athletics when no one was paid and players had very few options, yet support full free market capitalism and upward mobility, flexibility, with the ability to change jobs and career’s freely. Good for yee, not for thee.

@JudgeBobOrr Dean Smith and Roy Williams built a HOF careers with the type of players Judge Orr described. A mix of spectacular athleticism mixed with players with only great fundamentals. Trouble is one-and-done players ended the working formula.

Unfortunately, Western Europe will never say thank you to the US. Eastern Europe will. NATO’s head, Mark Rutte, will say thank you. But sadly England, France, and Spain won’t.
Eylon Levy@EylonALevy

The European Union is waking up to news that the Iranian regime has missiles that can reach the whole of Western Europe. It should say THANK YOU to the United States and Israel for destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons program and obliterating its ballistic missile industry.

Europe: Punching out strongly worded statements like clockwork. while the ayatollahs are busy counting what’s left of their launchers is peak 2026 absurdity. Europe’s got the rhetoric on lock, the moral high ground staked out, and the press releases queued up… but the actual “boom” is still coming from somewhere in the Zagros Mountains, not from a Brussels briefing room.
