#COP26 is not about climate. It's about asset stripping middle and working classes through the vehicle of carbon reduction. All it will achieve is poverty and enslavement

This is not good news given what will now happen to UK finances as a result of the war on Iran. And perhaps we can have some silence from all those who piled to exaggerate the significance of January’s freak figures. The UK borrowed a higher than expected £14.3bn in February. The shortfall between government spending and income was £2.2bn higher than in the same month a year ago and far above the £8.5bn forecast by economists polled by Reuters. At a time of peril for nation’s finances it is frightening to have R Reeves as Chancellor.

The hubrisitic self confidence of Islamists in the UK is finally waking up people beyond the "very online right" of their desire to dominate the country. Even Farage is mentioning it.

For a nation basically built of coal, gas and oil, and which pioneered nuclear electricity generation to have the most expensive energy in the world is the result of embracing eco-Marxism. Just like with healthcare.

The cheap green lie You are told that solar and wind are cheap But you need near-100% backup when no sun or wind, paying for two systems Data for 2024 shows that cramming in more solar and wind makes electricity overall more and more costly iea.org/data-and-stati… Threads&refs: x.com/BjornLomborg/s…

"Do you feel comfortable with that sort of approach from Nick Timothy?" "No." Sir Andy Street, former Conservative West Midlands Mayor, responds to the Shadow Justice Secretary describing a mass Muslim public prayer in Trafalgar Square as an "act of domination". #Newsnight

Employment up on the year. Unemployment rate unchanged. Continued long term challenge of youth unemployment. Labour plan to help with £3k employer hiring bonus and £2k SME apprenticeship bonus. FSB describe our plan as "game changer" and "decisive move forward".

We have spent £180m on plans for a tunnel under Stonehenge. The project is now scrapped. You can be for a tunnel & think spending is a good idea (even if you think the cost of planning is silly). You can be against a tunnel & think spending is a bad idea. But *nobody* can be for spending on this scale with zero result. And yet that is a peculiarly British outcome. Nobody will be reprimanded. Nobody will see their career affected. But that’s £180m of taxpayer money just wazzed up the wall. Totally without repercussions. Multiply this by airport expansions & train route plans and Thames crossings and power stations and other examples you can think of yourself, and… soon you’re talking serious money.

Most senior Labour figure yet to openly call for party to put rejoining EU in next election manifesto. Will others now follow? (Very few even say this privately - but it’s a long time until the next election)…
Antonello Guerrera@antoguerrera

EXCLUSIVE. For the first time, @MayorofLondon @SadiqKhan asks @Keir_Starmer to not only “rejoin the EU Customs Union and the Single Market this Parliament”, but also to “fight the next general election with a clear manifesto commitment: a vote for Labour means we would rejoin the European Union”, without a second #Brexit referendum. 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 Full interview - with many other topics - tomorrow in @repubblica

@FraserNelson Again - imagining Angela Rayner (who didn't know that she had to pay tax) doing any deep fiscal and economic analysis to offer policy direction is - to be charitable - science fiction.

Significant story. Suggests a Rayner premiership would use OBR criticism to do more borrow and spend - on grounds that it would pay for itself. Problem is that no other forecaster sees it her way. Nor would the markets
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Exclusive from @breeallegretti Angela Rayner has privately criticised the OBR and suggested that Labour has 'over-corrected' in the wake of the Tories In a private call with City investors organised by BNP Paribas she said that the official forecaster had failed to recognise the benefits of increased public spending Rayner attacked the scoring methodology used by the OBR, which measures the expected cost and growth gains of government policies to calculate the amount of fiscal headroom, based on the chancellor’s rules She said that the government's drive to build more social housing was considered a cost without any recognition of the social benefits She argued that the OBR is 'preventing' the government from greater public spending because it 'doesn't account for the returns' properly Expect this to be a growing fault line as the elections in May approach thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

@ftenergy It's not I bought 90 cubic metres of firewood - 2,000 litres of diesel for my little Honda generator and enough Barolo and Habanos to last me until 2029. Now I need to buy guitar strings and a few legs of Jamon Iberico and a couple of wheels of Parmesan.

Abortion up until birth. Assisted dying might be next. Neither were in the Labour manifesto. No mandate for either. The next parliament will need to repeal every abhorrent law passed under this corrupt government.

I feel so sad that a pregnant woman can now take an abortion pill and stop the heart of a 35-week gestation baby. Most people think that’s murder. Too many MPs and Lords are fine with it. Most EU countries have an abortion limit of 12 weeks. Britain is in moral decline.
David Frost@DavidGHFrost

I voted last night against the prospect of a new law allowing self-administered abortion up to birth. Sadly we failed to win the votes against this abhorrent practice, which will now become law shortly. It is deeply shameful that our country has gone down this awful road. Thank you to @DavidAltonHL and so many other colleagues who led this fight. This particular battle may be over (for now) but the campaign continues.
