@applefiles_ You can't hold on the icon to open its settings directly. Turning flash on is now an extra swipe, since auto flash is terrible.

@jsuchal Chválim použitie slova "keď" a nie "ak".

@jewiss @LelloucheNico So the argument is that any company should be able to work with Apple's private data. Let alone this absurdity given how sensitive that data is, and how dangerous "third-party" AI can be, why not push it further? Why not force Apple to make Siri compatible with iPhone 1? :)

EXCLUSIVE: Apple and the EU are telling very different stories on Siri AI, and right now, it's a standoff. Apple's press release and comments to @LelloucheNico say the DMA would force it to give rival assistants deep access to messages, files, photos, app actions, and personal context, creating privacy/security risks. I reached out to the EU Commission for comment, and they discussed it today (video below). They said nothing in the DMA blocks Siri AI. Apple can launch it if it complies, but it must give rivals "equivalent access" and can’t use iOS to favour its own AI. Apple proposed a “Trusted System Agent” and an 18-month rollout to ensure only approved third-party agents could run. The Commission says they weren't "DMA-compliant interoperability proposals." Whatever that means. This is a standoff over who controls the AI layer on iPhone. The EU isn’t protecting user choice here. It’s trying to regulate the iPhone’s AI layer, and EU users are the ones losing out. iPhone users can already download ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity. Apps like @poppysimplified can use your Mac to get system-level access for AI assistant apps. The EU is demanding default, system-level access for any third-party app that claims to be an AI assistant. Which is dangerous, especially given Apple's privacy-focused AI stance. Apple, respectably, is not bowing down.

@shottr_cc That's not a trick, that's bad UX. The user has no way to know this feature exists unless they randomly start pressing buttons.

Lesser-known trick: you can control Spotlight intensity by pressing number keys on your keyboard (1...9) while the Spotlight object is selected. Press 1 for the lightest option, and 9 for the darkest. (The default is 3.)

@chrisprice @stetsondoggett I know the difference between NSA and SA. NSA supports uplink aggregation (UL EN-DC) across 4G and 5G and every carrier I’ve dealt with does it. Are you assuming NSA just can't do it, or do you have proof that AT&T/VZW specifically disable it on their end?

So this is a limitation of early 5G technology. To get 5G out the door, it has to piggyback on 4G. 5G Standalone was the network (and device) update that would fix this. AT&T and Verizon saw it as low priority, having fewer Internet only customers, and 5G Voice (VoNR) being delayed. COVID really delayed AT&T and Verizon rolling it out. AT&T is fairly close to completion. Verizon is close too. AT&T is being extremely cautious in opening up access. They're literally gating in one device at a time. Goes back to a fine they got from the FCC in the early days of VoLTE.

And this is why I pay for fiber instead of using fixed wireless for my home internet. Currently testing a fixed wireless product now, hence the slow upload speeds, but man, sooo excited to go back to fiber.

@stetsondoggett If you're in a Verizon or AT&T NSA area, you're only using 4G for upload. Things will get better when 5G SA is fully available network wide, on all devices.

@MKBHD Technically cheaper than upgrading the storage previously to that amount. So still a price decrase for users who need actual storage.

@Sankew06 @SoSourKeiran Maybe it was blocked. Wifi Calling is pretty much a VPN connection directly to your carrier. Calls, SMS, and anything else that would normally go through the cell network will go through that tunnel.
