@We_OwnIt @RailfutureEA Comparing the retail price amongst countries is only one part of the equation. What about the costs - how do they compare? To bring down the retail price you need to reduce costs, grow revenue more than costs, or throw shed loads of taxpayers' money at it.

Britain’s rail fares remain the highest in Europe. The government should be more ambitious in its plans for Great British Railways, including reducing train fares. Investment in cutting rail fares is not a lucky break for people who use the railway; it is an investment in the entire economy.
