While speaking to congregants at Upper Room Full Gospel Church in New Jersey, our team leader @nankunda20 shared a powerful message about the importance of doing good every day. She reminded the congregants that #DoingGood should not be limited to a special week or month, it is something we can practice daily through simple acts of kindness and service. As the world prepares for International #GoodDeedsDay2026 on April 12th, celebrated across 115 countries, she encouraged everyone to take part in acts of compassion like feeding the hungry, helping those in need, supporting schools and sharing the word of God with children who have never heard it. We are currently in an important session on legal empowerment strategies for cultural transformation and different speakers are highlighting how local leadership can drive meaningful change. There is emphasis on the role of community structures from village councils to faith leaders in shaping attitudes and addressing harmful practices affecting women and girls. When communities engage trusted local leaders, conversations on rights, dignity and justice become more accessible and impactful. This session has practitioners from Uganda, Latin America and South Asia, demonstrating how locally driven strategies can challenge harmful gender norms and strengthen community ownership of women’s rights. We had a powerful session on ending child marriage which featured the CEO of Girls Not Brides @fmwangipowell who sounded a strong reminder that ending child marriage requires action from all of us. Her message was clear: Don’t be afraid, don’t be shy, speak up. If you know a president, a minister, or a policymaker, talk to them. If you know a parent, a community leader, or a faith leader, engage them. Even within our own homes, we must start the conversation with our families. Ending child marriage is not the responsibility of a few; it is a collective assignment for everyone. Each of us has a role to play. Our team leader proudly carried the voices and experiences of girls from the communities we serve, sharing powerful insights about our work. During engagements with partners and fellow advocates, she highlighted the realities many girls face; from barriers to education and harmful gender norms to the urgent need for supportive community systems that enable girls to thrive. She also shared how our programs continue to support adolescents through mentorship, advocacy and community engagement. These moments are a reminder that global conversations are strongest when grounded in the lived realities of girls and communities.
