Why Are We Joining Agent Grand Prix? Agent Grand Prix isn't your typical who has the most powerful model? competition. The real challenge is far more interesting, how intelligently can you design and operate an agent under real world constraints? The Grand Prix analogy is spot on. A race isn't won simply by having the fastest car or the largest fuel tank. Strategy, pit timing, tire management, efficiency and making the right decision at the right moment are what determine the winner. Agent Grand Prix follows the same philosophy. Agents will answer randomly generated questions, but every response first passes through Latch. That means an agent doesn't just need to be fast it also needs to manage its budget, permissions and API calls intelligently. I've spent quite a bit of time experimenting with Latch and one thing became very clear, Latch is much more than just a proxy. It acts as a governance layer that gives agents access to real APIs while maintaining control over how those APIs are used. This is exactly where AGP becomes interesting. The competition doesn't evaluate agents solely on their ability to generate answers it evaluates their ability to generate answers within controlled, production like constraints. Through Latch, agents can be configured with rules that determine: ✨which endpoints they are allowed to access, ✨how much budget they are permitted to spend, ✨which requests must pass policy validation, ✨which API calls are allowed or denied, ✨and how every request is monitored and logged. To me, this makes AGP a much more meaningful benchmark for real world AI agents. In production, we never give agents unlimited authority. Whether it's a financial assistant, a customer support agent, a research assistant or a coding agent, each one operates within predefined permissions, budgets and security policies. AGP turns those real world constraints into an engaging competition. Our strategy isn't to build the agent that spends the most it's to build the one that makes the most valuable decision at the right moment. Instead of routing every question to the most expensive model, a better approach is to classify the task first, solve straightforward questions with faster and cheaper models, escalate only uncertain or complex problems to stronger reasoning models, minimize unnecessary tool calls and stay within the operational limits enforced by Latch. A practical strategy for an AGP agent might look like this: ✨Quickly classify the question:,Is it factual, predictive, computational or does it require additional context? ✨Handle simple questions with low cost models. ✨Escalate to stronger reasoning only when uncertainty is high. ✨Avoid unnecessary API and tool calls. ✨Use Latch logs to measure which decisions actually improve performance. ✨Preserve your budget throughout the competition. ✨Balance speed, cost and accuracy with a smart decision making process.
