I'm sure it has no relation to people having damaged senses of smell so that they can't smell some things and other things smell like sewage.
Doesn't help that many of us have sensitivities and Covid makes allergies worse.

Has anyone noticed that new clothes smell really strong these days? Whether it’s perfume, cologne or chemicals… it seems like everything new has a terrible stench that I swear it didn’t have 6 years ago. Declining quality, increased smells and increased prices. Awesome.
