@toderash WP's fondness for GPL is rather fake. very low understanding of it, very self-serving interpretations, where it has "spirit" that means whatever they want it to mean. which was mostly (again) squeezing for free labor and stifling commercial use.

5 for the future was a poor idea from the start, because (as usual) it focused on extracting labor, not advancing project. for companies it incentivized optics, for contributors it reinforced that if you aren't worth it for the PR, the only price point WP welcomes you at is free.
