Great start to my reading in 2026. ‘True to their Salt’ by @RatheeRavindra on the history of Indian sepoys in not only building and sustaining the Raj but also helping in all the great wars across the world. Their contribution continues to remain unsung.

With thanks to Marlene Daut, Peter Kastor and Ravi Rathee for their contributions, as well as to Josh Provan @LandOfHistory for interviewing and headlines - and, above all, to professorial panellists @CharlesEsdaile and @AMikaberidze who have been there every step along the way.

It was an honour and pleasure to speak at the @UniofOxford Sustainable Finance Group's 2025 Summit last week. Esteemed colleagues joined me for the session titled "Financing India's Green Transition". Thank you Gireesh Shrimali and @bencaldecott for the invitation.

… And @RatheeRavindra describes how the British capitalised on this by sealing the deal with the Peshwa of the Maratha Confederacy, signing the Treaty of Bassein in this three months.

@bibekdebroy - the philosopher economist, and Chairman of @EACtoPM was fond of limericks, and wrote from his hospital bed four days before he passed away: "There are lives my life has touched, improved, even bruised.

Kindness unbound! Beauty in stranger's work he found! On his journey for the heavenly abode. Where do we find a heart so generous, a mind so broad? His intellect so fine, his advice so sound!

Sad news from New Delhi today that Kunwar Natwar Singh passed away at the age of 95. I first met him at the College in the late 90s, where he was invited to deliver a talk. During an informal session - keen to impress - I blurted out that in his fine biography of

Had a pleasant meeting with the author, fellow Stephanian, and former Union External Affairs Minister - K. Natwar Singh. I updated him on my forthcoming book, and he kindly gave me a signed copy of his last book! He also guided me on archive materials for my next book!
