A 16 y/o Dalit girl from Chitrakoot, UP went to fetch water from the well on Holi ( 4th march). Three boys from her village allegedly stopped her on the way, dragged her into an arhar field and assaulted her. Her family went to the police station the next day to report it. Her Family alleged... a woman police officer told the girl directly: "your clothes aren't torn, there's no mark on you, how are we supposed to believe this? And if you file a case, forget getting married." The accused and their families were called to the station, both sides were made to compromise and everyone went home. For 40 days she lived with it. She fell sick. She stayed quiet. On the night of April 14, she hanged herself at home. After her death, police registered a rape FIR against all three boys. One of them is the local pradhan's nephew. All three are from Brahmin families. Police say they found a diary she used to write in, with things about love and feelings. No hashtag outrage.
No bulldozer rhetoric.
No media trial.
Just silence.
So the question is simple: is justice equal, or does it depend on identity?
When the accused is Muslim, the system appears to move faster, the media grows louder, and collective blame often follows. When the accused is not Muslim, everything seems to slow down, becoming procedural, muted, and contained.
A crime is a crime. The victims deserve justice in every case. But this selective outrage points to a troubling pattern.
If outrage depends on religion, then it isn’t justice, it’s narrative building.

She is Nazma from Lucknow who had saved ₹1.5 lakh in a box to build her own home.
