@clharrington024 Becuase colleges require it for admission. This isn’t public schools fault it’s college admissions.

Absolutely!!! Why are we STILL requiring students to take foreign language in high school when there is virtually no benefit. Do high schoolers become fluent in the foreign language? No. Does it have a high ROI on cognitive development and brain health? Also no. Students’ brains would benefit more from 60 minutes of aerobic exercise than from sitting in a foreign language class. Also, we all have translators in our pockets. This is one of the many requirements in education whose time has expired. Public ed must stop wasting students’ time.
Brilyn Hollyhand@BrilynHollyhand

American high schools are wrong for requiring American students to learn Spanish in order to earn advanced diplomas, while not giving those same students the option to take practical classes like electrical or wood shop.

Like I said before, HOAs are diabolical. But I would’ve handled this differently. My preference is a private, polite (to the point of being saccharin) confrontation. You know the type. Here’s how it would go: “Hey Karen, we got a letter.” In a secretive tone, as if we’re conspiring together. “I’m sure it was a mistake. Probably an address mixup. Honestly, it could happen to anyone. I know you’re very reasonable.” (She absolutely is not anything of the kind.) “But you know what he’s like. The garbage can was only out for 11 minutes after pickup. And, like I said, I know you’re very reasonable. Unlike SOME people we know.” Head nod in his direction. “He actually wanted to bring this up. In. The. Meeting. Along with…” (pause for effect) “…your Christmas lights...” I feign being mortified. “…and something about page 12 of the bylaws.” I hand the letter back to her. “But I know it was just a mistake. You can take care of this, right?” Never embarrass a Karen at her own meeting. Private embarrassment works better. You’re more likely to get what you want: A reversal of the fine. An end to the harassment. Because Karen doesn’t want the whole neighborhood calculating that fine. It’s really a warning: If you don’t leave us alone, I’ll unleash him. With a smile. So, yes, I looked at the ceiling. Because I could have gotten a better ROI. Or EBITDA, or whatever. At least he isn’t on the news. Plz pray. Thx. Sent from my iPad

@TigerWoods We’re rooting for you Tiger. Get well. For yourself and your kids. And please, even once you are well, hire a driver. I understand about the privacy, I do. But it’s not worth putting yourself in this position again. We want to see you out there winning like the champ you are.

@alt_w_v_g Why did you pay the fine? There is no way you were in violation at 11mins. People have jobs. Many are gone to work when the garbage is picked up and don’t return home until evening. The by-laws have to allow for many hours. Point on Xmas lights notwithstanding, something is off.

Got a letter from the HOA yesterday Actual letter In an envelope With a stamp In 2026 The letter said my trash can was visible from the street for too long on collection day The fine is $50 I checked my Ring camera The truck came at 7:03am I brought the can in at 7:14am 11 minutes $50 That's $4.55 per minute of trash can visibility My therapist charges $250 an hour That's $4.17 per minute My trash can sitting in a driveway is now more expensive per minute than therapy I looked at the letter again It was signed by the HOA president Her name is Karen Of course it is I know this woman She lives four houses down She still has Christmas lights up It's March I know because I drive past them twice a day And because that's what I do I checked the HOA bylaws All 47 pages Section 4.2 says all exterior fixtures and lighting must be seasonal and removed within 30 days of the applicable holiday Her lights have been up for 97 days I went to the HOA meeting Tuesday night 7pm In a church basement Folding chairs Fruit platter that nobody touched Seven people showed up Four of them were on the board The other three were there to complain I was there to read My wife came with me She didn't want to But she said "if I don't come you'll end up on the news" I brought my legal pad Karen called the meeting to order She talked about community standards She talked about property values She talked about the importance of curb appeal From a woman whose Christmas lights are still blinking in March I raised my hand She said "we'll take questions at the end" I said "it's not a question. It's a point of order." She looked at me I opened my legal pad I said "Section 4.2 requires seasonal decorations to be removed within 30 days. Your Christmas lights have been up for 97 days. You fined me $50 for 11 minutes of trash can visibility on collection day while you've been in violation for over three months." The room was quiet One of the other three complainers said "he's right" The board members looked at each other Karen said "that's a separate issue" I said "it's the same bylaws" She said "we'll review it" I said "I already did. Page 12. Happy to share my highlights." My wife looked at the ceiling Some things never change Karen said "I think we should move on" I said "agreed. I'll move on when the Christmas lights do." Nobody laughed I wasn't joking I paid the $50 Because it's $50 and I'm not going to die on that hill But if the rules apply to me they apply to everyone So I filed a formal complaint about the lights With photos Timestamped Funny how surveillance works both ways The fine for seasonal decoration violations is $75 per occurrence She's been in violation for 67 days past the 30-day grace period I'll let her do the math Or I'll do it for her Because that's what I do Make common sense common again Plz fix. @SusieM414141 @SouthwestAir so awful so fast they must be doing it on purpose. No way you can tank a brand like this accidentally. I’ve seen them claim this empty seat thing is about weight - except until 6 months ago we randomly chose our seats on boarding & balancing wasn’t an issue. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

This woman is on a Southwest Airlines flight that was obviously not full, so she decided to switch seats. Now they are telling her she has to go back to her assigned seat or get off the flight. If a flight is not full, should people be allowed to switch seats? It used to not be a problem, but maybe when there is an unfortunate crash it becomes harder to identify people.

The sheer misogynism of our general society shows hugely from the fact Caroline Kennedy has never been considered as a future president of the United States. While her brother John Kennedy Jr was always considered, because he was male, handsome and athletic. Yet if we compare them Caroline Kennedy was the better Kennedy in almost everything. School, Arts, family relationships, she finished at the top ten of her law school and passed the NY state bar on her first attempt. From every report there is, she is generally admired and highly accomplished. I'm kinda sideyeying how her son Jack is trying to get in politics now, when you have this accomplished person already, who is coming from a historic family, has faced so much diversity in her life and still walks tall. I don't know just a few thoughts.

If you're the mother who was reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone aloud to your child on the LNER train from London to Edinburgh yesterday, one of my grown up children was listening and says you did the voices brilliantly❤️🥹

@pronatpropo @oscarmom355 You recognize you’re stunting the developmental growth of your older kids by not allowing the age appropriate toys right? Everyone with more than one child has gone through this. It does require extra work - we call it parenting.

@Life0fDaisy @pronatpropo @MinxyXJinxy A gift guide? Do you hear how that sounds? It’s rude becuase it’s so presumptuous (yes even to those who you know will give a gift) and ungrateful.Gifts are given with love and meant to be graciously accepted - then you do whatever you do with them behind closed doors.

@pronatpropo @MinxyXJinxy truly what is the issue with a simple gift guide that doesnt ask for specific items, but gives some general guidelines for your child? why does this have women jumping down throats

@pronatpropo Almost all gifts create work for the parents becuase we have to clean them up and keep track of them and yes, keep them from hurting our younger kids. The thing is - the gift isn’t for the parents it’s for the child. Parenting is work. Get over yourself.

I'm trying to figure out if I like the green on Catherine, Princess of Wales. I understand the need for modesty, which is never an issue with Catherine, but what about the color? I always thought the princess looks wonderful in blue, and it's been a little while since we've seen too much blue on her. Catherine and William look wonderful, as always. I'm just trying to figure out if an emerald tiara would have been spectacular on her. Maybe/ maybe not? What do you think of the green gown?
