I don’t believe any data he provides - possibly sourced from a paid‑for private security team who undoubtedly rely on such claims to justify maintenance of their lucrative contract. Who are they? What is he paying them? And what data do they supposedly have access to that the police and security services certainly do to manage the actual risk?

There is a legitimate argument here about working families who earn too much to qualify for means-tested support, yet still face high housing, childcare, energy and taxation costs. But several different issues are being bundled together. Paying for cinema trips or theme parks is not a failure of government. A married couple would not normally receive the single-person Council Tax discount. Entering the higher-rate tax band also does not mean that all income is suddenly taxed at 40%, only the amount above the threshold. The most serious claim is that her daughter cannot play outside because the Government has “failed to secure our borders”. What evidence supports that connection? Parents are entitled to be concerned about safety, but immigration should not be presented as the automatic explanation for every fear. Official evidence repeatedly shows that most sexual abuse is committed by someone known to the victim, not a stranger who has recently crossed the border. Available prosecution figures have also shown that the large majority of defendants in child sexual-abuse cases where ethnicity was recorded were White, with White British defendants forming the largest group. That does not make White people collectively responsible, any more than the actions of an individual migrant make migrants collectively responsible. The fair question is whether working households are receiving reasonable value from the taxes they pay. That deserves a serious answer. The claim that her daughter is unsafe because of the borders deserves evidence, not insinuation.

I am married with a young daughter, both myself and my husband work. -We are not entitled to housing benefit, or any other benefit for that matter. -We do not get free eye tests, free dental care or free prescriptions. -Our daughter is not entitled to free school meals, or free breakfast clubs, or free wrap around care, no help with her uniform. -We don’t get council tax discount, or any other discount. -We don’t get help with our energy bills, or low cost broadband. -We don’t get help with the cost of going to the cinema, or days out at theme parks. -My daughter is unable to play outside unsupervised, because you have failed to secure our borders and the streets aren’t safe. -If I work more hours, I fall into the higher tax band. If you’ve got kids of primary school age, don’t fall in to the trap of getting a ‘worlds best teacher mug, pen, socks, candle’ or any of that stuff. They’ve already got it, loads of it, in cupboards and drawers and they can’t remember which kids bought any of it.
