Not one mention of Mike Schmidt or Steve Carlton on FOX broadcast of the All Star Game in Philadelphia in their waxing poetic about the history of baseball for an hour + half. Disgraceful. They both threw out the 1st pitch which FOX didn't show.

@AmericanIpa8 Absolutely gets a pass. I'm just saying I grew up watching him charge after ground balls bare handed and firing over to first. But like they say time is undefeated

We all age, but this is sad to see, especially for those of us who grew up watching Mike Schmidt become the greatest to play his position

Mike Schmidt told me he was thinking of trying overhand for the first pitch, but he can’t lift his arm over his shoulder — so he was going to throw underhand. Unless the #Phillies make the World Series, he said this is his last first pitch.

Watching Michkov's shifts here, and any of his hockey from around his 2020-2022 days (where he wasn't exclusively playing against grown men) is pretty surreal. He's basically the opposite of most elite talents. He does his best work in "dirty areas." youtube.com/live/1WYsdFz-o…

@RayMoffo @SuitableAlias You just disregarded the whole point I made about it being an oxymoron. The whole point of being a finesse player is that you don’t have the physical ability to out athlete someone. Michkovs shifts were also heavily impacted by coaching decisions.

@jfost04 @SuitableAlias you don't finesse when you're slow either. Much of that is also from lack of stamina toward the end of shifts, which shouldn't be as much of an issue as it was for a player his age

@RayMoffo @SuitableAlias Too slow to finesse anyone is an oxymoron. Michkov had more 20+ mph bursts than Jason Robertson. I don’t think youd call Robertson too slow would you?

@JDSST they advanced to the World Series in 2022 and the NLCS in 2023 by beating the Braves, so as far as I see it no one from Atlanta has anything to brag about when it comes to the Houston no-hitter or losing to the DBacks

@jfost04 @SuitableAlias I'm not saying he has to be a power forward, that's never going to be him, but as it is he needs to improve in those areas to be effective playing his game. Watching him last year he was too slow to finesse anyone

@RayMoffo @SuitableAlias What if being a finesse player is better suited for him than a power player like you’re describing? I feel like skating is a fine critique but saying speed and physical traits is counterintuitive, no?
