Here’s the uncomfortable truth about this 2.01 trillion collected by SARS That money didn’t come from thin air, it came from citizens who are already under pressure, people paying income tax, VAT on almost everything they buy, fuel levies, and small businesses trying to survive in a tough economy When politicians celebrate big tax collections like this, some of them look like clowns because they are cheering a number without acknowledging the pain behind it Many South Africans are dealing with unemployment, rising food prices, expensive fuel, and slow economic growth Higher tax collection often means people are paying more, not necessarily that the economy is thriving If people were earning more, if businesses were booming, if unemployment was dropping, then it would make sense to celebrate because it would reflect real growth But right now, it feels like the burden is increasing while service delivery, infrastructure, and accountability are not improving at the same pace So the frustration is not about the number itself. It is about what people are getting in return

Spending on contracted services is being reduced across key areas: ✅Water tankering has been reduced to R126.7 million, a 79% decrease ✅Security-related contracted services have been reduced to R475 million, a 17% decrease. The 2026/27 draft budget tabled today in Council outlines: ✅The capital budget is set at R2.8 billion for the 2026/27 financial year, up from R2.45 billion in 2025/26; a percentage rise of 14.2% ✅We made the decision to increase this further to R3.5 billion in the following financial year ✅This represents a R700 million year-on-year increase, equivalent to a 25% rise in capital investment without borrowing @CityTshwane

He is also quick to bring you back on track when you start going off track, all while wearing a smile on his face. • Commissioner Baloyi Exceptionally vigilant. She asks critical, well-thought-out questions and does not allow anyone to escape without giving proper answers. • Commissioner Khumalo A sniper. He listens patiently and takes his time, but when he finally comes in, he shoots straight to the head and never misses. He is also extremely precise with annexure pages, paragraph numbers, and specific lines. • Adv Chaskalson He lets you finish yourself off, then steps in to close the chapter. He may chuckle lightly while asking questions, which can make the exchange feel less tense at first. But his questioning technique is precise and strategic. His questions may sound similar, yet each one is slightly different.
