@antoin @re_dubhthaigh @emmetatquiddity Geographical proximity of the market to the bakery/apiary/veg farm/etc. Close enough that they can reasonably drive their own van there and back the same day without relying on anyone else for logistics.

Gutted to hear that the food market is finishing (from today?). There was talk of a year’s trial when it started but, even after a few weeks, it was looking like it wasn’t going to make it...

@re_dubhthaigh @emmetatquiddity Must be tough in urban areas, but local producers markets can survive by selling cheaper or competitively with supermarkets (cutting the middle men out can do that), and by a critical mass of fresh produce so it takes shoppers 1 trip.. You need real local production, though?

@emmetatquiddity All research is an intervention, there is no such thing as pure observational resea ah shit that's what you do isn't it

@RcrdSgrd Yes, which has led to committees adopting and applying frameworks to research approaches that bear no relation to clinical trial / experimental research - in which case, is it really ethical to pretend that meaningless obligations to institutions are for the protection of others!

@emmetatquiddity You can tell I (superficially) teach some of this... But there is a straight line from Nazi experiments in WW2 to todays university and hospital ethics committees. I've sympathy for them.

@JoergGraf yep - but the important thing from the publishing perspective is there is no binary decision based on peer review

Massive news: eLife to abolish accept/reject decisions: papers will just be “peer reviewed”. Others can argue about this, but lots of interesting consequences. 1/9 elifesciences.org/articles/83889

@timfrayling @mrtnj @cshperspectives It should be easy to anonymise authorship on the editor's screen - and not a particularly more radical step at point in history! Author reputation is arguably a *good* metric for evaluating quality-at-a-glance. But "at-a-glance" is a bad idea, I think we can all agree?

@HamshereMarian Yes. Is it mainly employers, and apartment developers who have to do this? That, and I'd like to see proper space on trams/trains for bikes.

@RcrdSgrd If there is secure parking for e-bikes or any bike really, it could revolutionise local journeys and take cars off the road 🚴🏻‍♂️ am not sure what the solution is, but the impact could be huge
