@davidmcw The problem is the geometry really. The wall to wall width of the roads isn’t that wide. It has to be shared with all modes. There aren’t very many north-south traffic lanes for the amount of activity and population so it’s hard to take away traffic lanes..

@ciaraobrien @IrishTimes reading your article about X. What makes you say X wouldn’t be liable? The law seems very clear. X certainly is criminally liable for this .

@Keyes @lorcansirr One thing he almost points out is that AHB and local authority housing are both based on a tax break th we t isn’t available to private sector: they don’t pay any tax at whatsoever on their income.

Saw this from @lorcansirr and looked forward to learning what landlords really earn. But it’s nowhere in the piece.

@davidmcw @PiarasMurphy Separately there is a much bigger problem. We don’t plan (as you point out.) in a few years we won’t have a usable sites left. We need to plan new cities, with strong public transport links to existing ones.

Morning! Here's some clear numbers on housing, immigration and house prices. Put very simply, the rate of immigration will have to be halved at least for there to be any hope of stabilising house prices, given the amount of homes that are being built now. irishtimes.com/opinion/2025/0…

@HSELive Why is the individual health identifier not being used? This was introduced in primary legislation in 2014 for this exact purpose.

You may be asked for your PPSN (personal public services number) the next time you attend a HSE service, to help us further safely and uniquely identify you. If you do not have a PPS number, you will still receive healthcare. Learn more: bit.ly/4nFKsQZ

@GTCost For sure. The driver is opportunities grift rather than heartfelt views on the philosophy of money.

@AIBIreland hello, I just got this. It’s a fairly sophisticated phishing operation. They have a guy with a plausible accent answering the phone number. (I am not an AIB customer, don’t have any app.)

@XEnergyIreland @NuclearIreland This wasn’t the price of electricity generally, this was the non-market price SEM paid for balancing energy. Less than 3 percent of energy traded at this price as far as I can tell?

The astronomical electricity price of 438 €/MWh (44c/kWh) happened yesterday evening between 17.00 and 18.00 (Coincided with low wind, reducing solar, and peak demand) Power was provided by fossil-fueled thermal plant

@GTCost @beingianbergin Most Ryanair flights (within EU) are subject to ETS and emissions are therefore capped. Carbon is already priced in. The flight going ahead or not going ahead makes no difference to overall carbon emissions.

@beingianbergin A lot of this is very true. There is a real problem that needs addressing. And we need to find multiple alternative ways to addressing it. So some things rise in their power and some wane.

@GerrikoM2M @conoro Risk levels are different. Your computer crashes or you lose all your files which is actually not that high impact for most people. The problem is that this system could do a load of stuff to your house or if scale is big enough maybe even the electricity system.

@antoin @conoro Agree. But then again what system really is. It's the age old design dilemma of building in flexibility vs. constraint. Just have to look at our humble PC/laptop and see how difficult things are with Windows / Linux / MAC. All it takes is that one email with a dodgy link & click!

@GerrikoM2M @conoro Can the typical user of a home system really assess or evaluate devices or add-ons? That’s the ultimate problem and the lack of segregation/permissions inside HA makes it that bit more risky . HA is a fine piece of kit still.

@GerrikoM2M @conoro Saw that, shows how HA doesn’t actually provide a deep security concept, it’s up to the user. It’s not so much a smart bulb I worry about as a smart vacuum or some sort of UI device that gets access to many parameters. Also the various add-ons/drivers for kooky devices.
