@BonniCrisfulli @sap4good @SAP @DS4Today Hardly shoo-ins. They cleared both the HR and tech bars. They were hired because they can do the job AND have NON-TECHNICAL chops 95% of US devs do not - self-awareness, resilience, intrinsic motivation and a dozen other durable skills.

Reviewed today w/ H.E. .@Aymanmufleh #Jordan's social protection response to COVID19 crisis & poverty alleviation. The 2020-21 programs introduced by @MOSD_JO were critical to support poor/vulnerable households & workers via cash transfers, unemployment benefits & wage subsidies.

@jfarmer eXtreme Learning only works if there is delta in technical ability. So across the 1,000 hour program, half the time is spent growing non-techinical skills as the senior in the pair has to focus on communication, coaching, patience and other durable skills.

How is the "ahead" vs "behind" dichotomy reflected in your course? Your curriculum? The way you talk and act around students? How they talk and act around each other? Each instance adds a little disunity to the group. Replace it with something else and you'll be surprised.

Students being "ahead" or "behind" is the #1 false dichotomy in course design. Yes, every course has a "main road". For students chomping at the bit, push them towards the side streets and skyscrapers. When they return to the main road, have them share their new understanding.

@jfarmer For any given sprint, we have basic, advanced and nightmare requirements. Pairs must clear the basic bar but for those with masters degrees in CS, the nightmare requirement keeps them engaged until the deadline.

Every student does 1️⃣. If a student is energized by it, wants something harder, etc. then prompt them to do 2️⃣. Continue down the line until the student loses interest or it's time to move on. Will every student take this side street? No, and that's fine.
