@PeskyDyslexia @maria_f_vazquez @ucfalum Misinterpretation of ESSA reports strikes again! While RAZ Kids has a strong ESSA rating, that rating is based on the quality of the (single) study of it, not the the literacy outcomes. The results were a very small effect size of 0.14.

The points about the value of programs by @ehanford seems to have started a firestorm… the musician analogy is tricky … I propose an alternative… teachers who use programs are like astronauts. The images below show why I like this analogy… #teachersareastronauts 📚🚀

We should always be listening to our students read aloud and attune our ears to the types of errors they're making. This should guide our instruction. Check out some of the ways we can listen to our students as aligned to the Science of Reading. #literacy #scienceofreading

Thankfully Florida no longer uses the IQ-Achievement discrepancy model for SLD evaluation, but much work is left to be done to improve our RtI model! Here is an excellent discussion of best practices in SLD identification: files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED606…

"SENTENCE COMBINING is the most effective way to teach grammar (Graham & Perin, 2007; Shanahan, 2009). Students should have plenty of practice combining short, declarative sentences using pronouns, commas, and conjunctions as needed." #literacy #writing
