@txtraeger 1. True but for the same reason it's true at many levels- because that's what gets you on the team/field. 2. True for some I'm sure. But more indicative that a particular "national" team is handling the process poorly.

Interested in reaction to the following: 1) There are more throwers than pitchers in college baseball given hyper focus on velo vs command. 2) Being on a summer ball “national” super team with limited practice and only meets up for games costs players years of actual development.

Ray Gun -> Jugs (3-4 mph) Jugs -> Stalker (roughly 1 mph) Stalker -> TrackMan (1-2 mph) No one has used a Ray Gun for a long time. There IS a difference between how velo was read in 2000-2010 and now; but the increase in velocity in the game is not fully explained by the guns

@justinamash Doesn’t the speed and nature of modern conflicts makes necessary congressional action and formal declarations of war an absurd relic? The fact that our legislative branch has rendered itself completely impotent isn’t limited to this issue and may be the larger issue here.

There’s no congressional authorization for the president to strike ISIS in Somalia or anywhere else. The idea that the president is permanently authorized to strike anyone anywhere that he deems a “terrorist” is pure fiction. This is the forever war, and it endangers Americans.

@108_Performance You and I have discussed this before… I know we don’t really disagree. But the stat you are using to support is no bueno- apples and oranges

@108_Performance Yes there is a signficant advantage to a 2-1 count vs 1-2 count but your batting average/obp/slg are all taking into account strikeouts which is why the 1-2 numbers LOOK absurdly low.

Apparently the baseball world is going crazy because "Steve in Accounting" liked or didn't like something... I stay out of all that- that was an AWESOME World Series and I loved every minute! Guys played their tails off! Baseball with that kind of urgency is a great game.

It all matters: command, pitch development, ability to compete, biomechanics, power generation. All of it. Be suspicious of any coach who thinks one thing is a silver bullet. Coaching high-level skill development is an art. Being a specialist in just one area doesn't cut it.

Understanding pitching metrics does not make you a good pitching coach. But if you don't understand what's worked and what hasn't in the modern landscape, it's pretty much guaranteed that you are not a good pitching coach.

@M_Gerber17 1) Standardized calendar for recruiting/travel ball transfer portal/ rosters locked for summer after 2) Events divided by level of team - eliminate outrageous mismatches 3) A "Super League" for the top maybe 32 teams in any class How do it is a much longer convo.

Your input please 👇👇👇 If you were the “Commissioner of Travel Ball” - What is the first thing you would fix and how would you do it?

The Twins hired Wes Johnson out of the the SEC ranks in 2019 as pitching coach, which was the first direct college-to-MLB coaching hire since Dick Howser went from coaching Florida State to managing the Yankees in 1980. It worked:

Anecdotally, shadow zone 2 seamers (moving back towards the zone) seem to be called strikes at a higher rate than shadow zone breaking balls moving away from the zone. Any analytics folks know if that is true?

For those who saw my post a few weeks ago and don't know, on August 29th, we completed the sale of NCTB (my business for the last 20+ years) to Unrivaled Sports. It was a long process with a fantastic outcome for myself, Jim and Vince.

20+ years of tourneys, the Cal Cup, 11 years of the USA Baseball NTIS, 12 years of The League. We've gotten to see generations of players grow up in front of us and we were able to provide them places to hone their craft. That is its own reward. I am filled with gratitude.

@RealAdamFarb Me neither but we have great kids in all these programs. They would benefit for all of us to work together.

You know what's wild in the "travel ball" HS summer world? Everyone basically agrees what the logical thing to do is to make the current set up better, but they can't because the guys who run the various programs hate each other too much to work together.
