@jenteach13 Teachers should be paid based on merit, not political muscle derived from tax based salaries.

@USCanalytics That’s from Clery Act reporting. UCs are very diligent at reporting crimes. Private schools not so much.

From College Factual (2019)

I refuse to believe that UCLA is more dangerous than South Central This is so wrong Plus ASU is more dangerous

@CordialSportFan I’m a lawyer. No contracts were voided because the matter did not go to trial. Some causes of action were dismissed, but that had little effect on negotiations. Typical settlement: 40-60 cents on the dollar. Likely outcome: $50 mil agreed to resolve all claims.
English

Best case scenario for the PAC would be $46M owed. That's what they expected to actually pay & reportedly offered. The $150M is the MWC best case but since they are settling, that won't be it. Not trying to cosplay lawyer, it's just fun to guess so here's mine: $68M. Rationale👇

I would bet heavily on the Under. And by heavily, I mean every last cent

@GovPressOffice F off you goddam swindler. Suspend gas taxes now!!
English

Californians, if you’re hitting the road this holiday weekend, be sure to AVOID Chevron.
Pro tip: unbranded gas comes from the same refineries, storage tanks, and pipelines, and it meets the same state standards to keep your engine running clean, even if it doesn’t have a fancy name like ‘Techron.’
Big Oil is already making billions off Trump’s Iran War; don’t let them rip you off even more by overpaying for the brand name.

@OS_Beaver One G6 guaranteed spot is probably all y they will get. They have no leverage.
English

@AGuyNamedNam Why would building wealth for self and others mean sucking at the job these folks literally set out to do? They are not there to save the world or feed the masses - that’s for politicians and others to try and massively fail at.
English

@OsuFoolOfATook What legacy? Those who created that legacy are all gone.
English

People said the PAC-12 was dead.
What they ignored was the LEGACY.
Heisman winners.
Hall of Famers.
Historic coaches.
Iconic stadiums.
Deep football tradition across the West.
The new PAC-12 stacks up with ANY power conference in America.
No G5 comes close. 👀

@SSN_Pac12 Never know? Settlement agreements are filed with the court where they become public. No reason why this settlement won’t be made public - even if the parties wish it to remain private.
English

Another thought on this,
Obviously I am a Pac-12 account and normally I would be doing victory laps on this. But the truth is, we will likely never know what the final payout number is.
So who won? Probably nobody.
And who lost? Also, probably nobody.
Jon Wilner@wilnerhotline
Per court listings, Pac-12 and MW have reached a settlement in principle. No details, no docs and nothing finalized. Hearing scheduled for 6/9

@WCCSG_ There is only so be right answer. Aaron Rodgers of course.

In 2021, 22-year-old Texas college student Jacqueline Durand was hired to walk two dogs at a home in Coppell.
She had met the dogs before and was supposed to care for them while the owners were away.
But when Jacqueline opened the front door, the dogs attacked.
They mauled her for nearly 40 minutes before first responders could safely reach her.
By the time she was rescued, Jacqueline had suffered more than 800 bite wounds and lost about 30% of her blood.
The dogs had torn off both of her ears, her nose, her lips, and most of her face below the eyes.
She was rushed to the hospital and placed in a medically induced coma.
Jacqueline survived, but spent weeks in the hospital and later underwent multiple reconstructive surgeries.

@SpencerAlthouse Dude raped kids. It doesn’t matter if he’s dead. Or how long ago it was. It’s always fair game.

wow I'm genuinely shocked SNL was allowed to say this during their annual "joke swap" bit on Weekend Update
Michael Che reading what Colin Jost wrote for him: "The movie 'Michael' won the box office again this weekend, and since a few members of the Jackson family are actually in the audience tonight I wanted to take a minute to tell everybody what I really think. Michael Jackson did nothing wrong! He was right to molest all those kids! And they were lucky. I would have paid him to do it. And I did! That's right. When I was 10 years old Michael Jackson molested ME, and the only thing it gave me was a fetish for middle-aged white women."

@TomeiTyler @JeremiahDJohns Public unions own California. Democratic candidates fight each other tooth and nail for their endorsement because they know union support means a certain win. Unions buy politicians and politicians give them even more $ and power all at tax payer expense.
English

@JeremiahDJohns Truth is in the middle. Other than cops who are overpaid and glorified a bit over the top, we treat most public unions like trash and take things out on them. You’d have an argument if we actually funded transit. We don’t.
English

Public sector unions are bad.
These unions are not negotiating against billionaires or some convenient cartoon villain. They're rent seeking and negotiating against taxpayers, and they'll shut down vital infrastructure if we don't humor their tantrum.
sam@sam_d_1995
I am usually pro-labor but the LIRR strike is absurd they’re already the best paid agency in the country, with average total comp of over $200K, and now they’re refusing a 4% raise? This is a perfect example of why US transit is so inefficient!

@SelenaC10705 UCs do what they can - and it’s great. You get a world class education. It won’t be free but definitely life changing and awesome value. People are just never satisfied. Most students prefer to live off campus after one year.
English

We did tour there, it’s a nice campus. However, housing is not guaranteed. Incoming first year students are typically guaranteed housing for up to two years if requirements are met.
After that period, continuing students may apply for housing, but it is not guaranteed, and availability depends on space and priority.
That said, it still feels overpriced for SRO-style living. UCs can do better.
English

As a parent of a UC student, I’m shocked that California’s UC system still cannot guarantee on-campus housing for all enrolled students.
UC freshmen are paying around $1,700 a month for tiny shared dorms with shared bathrooms, shared showers, no kitchen, and meal plans charged separately.
That’s an outrageous cost, especially for families who have paid decades of taxes in California.
Then students are pushed into an insane rental market after their first year because UC campuses continue to limit the supply of on-campus housing despite years of growing demand.
Students pursuing higher education at UCs should not have to fear homelessness after their first year because they cannot afford to pay ridiculous rents near campus and UCs told them to move out of the dorms. Many students come from far away and have nowhere else to turn but to suffer.
This problem has existed for decades.
Many UCs were built on farmland with tax dollars, with room to plan for growth, yet decades later students are still being squeezed by a man-made on-campus housing shortage and soaring costs, while developers and investors buy in and profit from student demand.
UCs should build enough on-campus housing in a variety of floor plans for all students to choose and use a family income based sliding scale for rent. No UC student pursuing an education should have to worry about whether they can afford a roof over their head while enrolled in school.
This should not be the norm we are expected to accept.
Just my two cents.
English

@WCCSG_ I do. First saw him with Jerod Hasse in the backcourt with Grisby at powerforward. Had a potentially great freshman class.
