@McCormickProf I appreciate your articulation of the problem. Ideally I would like to join you. But this is not a problem that allows the ideal. In practice your exclusion of those with whom you disagree (white supremacists) may be sufficient to return control of the US to the Democrats who will import Islam which is antithetical to our freedoms. Democrats will import Islam, destroy public education of our children, kill the unborn, and transition children before they have a clue of what it means to be male or female. I am willing to put up with white supremacists and antisemites IF it prevents that.

A few days ago, I posted a brief statement of what I, as a conservative, seek to conserve. The first item on the list was what I regard as the foundational principle of all sound morality: the profound, inherent, and equal dignity of each and every member of the human family. Everything else I believe about ethics and politics in one way or another stands upon or presupposes that principle. Any form of “conservatism” (or “liberalism”) that denies it in principle or transgresses it in practice is alien to me. That is why I believe that the conservative movement, though it can and should be a broad tent, simply cannot include or accommodate white supremacists or racists of any type, antisemites, eugenicists, or others whose ideologies are incompatible with belief in the inherent and equal dignity of all. As a conservative, I say that there is no place for such people in our movement. So, while I understand and appreciate that politics is about “adding and multiplying, not subtracting and dividing,” and though I welcome conservatives representing a range of viewpoints on a wide swath of issues, I will not—I cannot—accept the idea that we have “no enemies to the right.” The white supremacists, the antisemites, the eugenicists, the bigots, must not be welcomed into our movement or treated as normal or acceptable. Is this a call for “cancelation”? No. It’s a reminder that we conservatives stand for something—or should stand for something. We have core principles that are not negotiable. I am—notoriously, for some of my fellow conservatives—committed to the principle of free speech for everybody, including people with whom I profoundly disagree even on the most important issues, indeed, including racists and other bigots. But defending their rights does not mean allying with them, welcoming them into our movement, or treating them as representing legitimate forms of conservatism. I am also—again, notoriously, for some of my fellow conservatives—willing to engage people with whom I deeply disagree, so long as they are honest and are willing to do business in the proper currency of intellectual discourse, a currency consisting of reasons, evidence, and arguments. (It is pointless to engage bad faith actors, charlatans, and con men.) But, again, engaging and forcefully arguing against people who deny the inherent and equal dignity of all is one thing, welcoming them into the movement or treating their ideas and ideologies as representing legitimate forms of conservatism is something entirely different. Let me be plain. American conservatism today faces a challenge. That challenge comes from those who reject our commitment to inherent and equal human dignity. They are seeking acceptance in the conservative movement and its institutions, and they do so with the ultimate objective of transforming them by undermining that commitment. They openly preach white supremacy and the hatred of Jews, among other noxious ideas. They no longer feel the need even to try to hide their bigotry. It is incumbent upon those of us who maintain the “ancient faith” (to borrow a phrase from Lincoln) to make clear to friend and foe alike that we will not permit the integrity of our movement and its institutions to be compromised. We will not treat its foundational principle of inherent and equal human dignity as optional. On the contrary, we will insist on it, defending and advancing it with renewed dedication.

All antisemitic, racist, and bigoted messaging and other forms of communication should be aggressively condemned.  I don't care if it's Young Republicans or Young Democrats, members of Congress (too many to count), media that platforms and promotes such poison (which is often), organizations that invite bigots as speakers and debaters, podcasters, comedians, and on and on.  I also find it disgusting that some of those condemning the Young Republicans in the Politico piece, who most certainly should be condemned and removed, are as guilty as they are with their headlines, storylines, and promotion of a long list of bigots. It's sinister.  Even worse, those who routinely and PUBLICLY promote the garbage, for their own ratings or clicks, etc., are not even ashamed of it and seek to monetize it or worse.    Furthermore, I have stated and I am deeply concerned that the likes of Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Steve Bannon, and their ilk, as well as their apologists, who are not real MAGA or conservatives or Republicans, but a cabal of grifters, psychos, and exploiters, are being mainstreamed and do have an impact on the minds of too many young people (and too many would be one, but it's clearly more than that).  Where are the top Republicans denouncing them?  Where are other broadcast hosts, columnists, and public officials?  Those of us who speak out are few in number and often disparaged by the same media outlets that claim offense at the awful things reported in the Politico piece.  I am more than happy to have a bigger discussion about this, but as I observe and engage, I see too few with the guts to do so -- including people in the leftwing media. And where are the top Democrats denouncing Mamdani, Omar, Tlaib, Sanders, et al?  These are vile demagogues.  They are routinely platformed by the corporate media.  The fusion of the media with the Democrat Party makes it less possible to have a real and routine condemnation.  In fact, one wire service recently ran a story suggesting legitimate criticism of them and what they say is Islamophobia!  What about CAIR and scores of other like organizations, with ties to Hamas, spreading their hate and propaganda -- especially in the media? None identifies with the GOP.  Many work within the Democrat Party orbit.  Or they use Hamas propaganda, from casualty figures and accusations of starvation and genocide in Gaza allegedly perpetrated by the Israelis, spread throughout the media (accompanied at times with phony photographs), and regurgitated not only by independent media grifters but Democrat Party officials and surrogates, which is obviously intended to promote Jew-hatred?  The corporate Western media, which is overwhelmingly Democrat and leftwing, has played a huge role in spreading this hate. I am not talking about criticizing Israel; I am talking about spreading lies and hate.  The rot within the Democrat Party and their media (not to mention their allied academic institutions), promotes the soft if not outright embrace of terrorist and Marxist ideology, language, and front groups. What about the language used by the Democrats on any given Sunday on one of the network or cable shows against President Trump -- when he enforces the immigration laws, cuts programs or spending, gives a speech, and so forth.  I could go on and on.  I wrote extensively about this in Unfreedom of the Press.  Of course, there are times when such analogies against certain individuals or movements actually fit, but not against the president and his millions of supporters.  Indeed, that is nothing but agitprop, and part of the problem.  The corporate media, numerous media websites, and desperate podcasters, among others, are a huge part of all this. This cancer is, in fact, spreading.  In the meantime, I look forward to reading the texts Politico will undoubtedly secure from elements within the Democrat Party to prove how ubiquitous this problem is.  Right, Politico?   Oh, and this isn't about free speech.  I am not talking about the First Amendment and government action.  I am talking about we, the people, defending our civil society and our way of life from an evil and darkness that threatens them -- and those individuals and institutions that are spreading them.
