@SomeRndmGuyUT @AcuffMUSE The whole not doing well at the box office doesn’t indicate an issue with the movie. People just aren’t going to the movies due to how expensive it is

@AcuffMUSE I’ll do as I damn well please. I didn’t say “the movie sucked”. I said it is not doing well at the box office and Disney is on a bit of a losing streak with Star Wars. I don’t have to see the new movie to know that SW is in a financial death spiral right now.

I haven’t seen Mando and Grogu. Won’t watch it until it hit streaming. However. The box office numbers are speaking very loudly. It is time for Disney to walk away from Star Wars for about five years and do a hard reset. Any magic left in the franchise is dead.

@powerlock9502 Is it? The whole Coin /Hutt stuff made no sense. Let alone Hutt being some agile fighter. How was Leia able to check out Jabba as apparantly, they're all super agile now? Mate I'd watch a Transformers movie and enjoy it over this crap.

@MarvinMontanaro @MutenRoshi31 It’s a reflection of the current economy and that theaters are still in decline. For my wife and I it was $38 for IMAX tickets and $23 for Popcorn and 2 bottles of water. For a lot of people that’s unaffordable when you can wait 3 months for it to be out on streaming

So sick of this disingenuous narrative that if the movie makes its budget total then it made money. It has to make A LOT MORE than its budget because of ticket splits and marketing (and this movie had A LOT of marketing). You're looking at a STEEP uphill climb here.
Global Box Office@GlobalBoxOffice

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU surpassed the $165M mark at the global box office on a $165M budget. Domestically, the new Star Wars movie hit $102M over its 4-day opening, surpassing industry early projections.

@RobForLiberty It has more to do with less people going to the theaters than anything. I paid $38 for 2 tickets for IMAX. Glad I could afford it but that’s not affordable for others

Is @AmericanAir's longest route (DFW-BNE) not as premium as the airline hoped? The original plan: fly the fancy new 787-9P with Flagship Suites with doors. That plane was delayed, so AA launched with the regular 787-9. In winter 2025, the 789-9P finally took over. But this weekend, AA quietly swapped winter 2026 back to the regular 787-9. A telling sign for premium demand on AA's longest flight? Or is this plane just better suited for London?

Shoutout to @AmericanAir takes off without enough fuel on my Friday night flight and then have to re route and land somewhere else to get fuel… than today have rebooked my 6am flight home 7 times due to maintenance while all other flights take off… than let us finally board and have us sit on plane for over 3 hours… a disgrace

Zach Galifianakis calls out comedians who have President Trump or other politicians on their podcasts but don’t challenge them and just “fake laugh,” contrasting it with his Between Two Ferns episodes like the one with Barack Obama 😳👀 He also recalls Hillary Clinton asking him not to bring up the email controversy, so he said he wouldn’t do the episode unless they allowed it

The Biden admin blocking JetBlue’s acquisition did not kill Spirit. Nor did $4+ jet fuel alone - though that clearly hastened its demise. Spirit was circling the drain for years. It’s gone now because: - richer pilot contracts raised its costs significantly. You can’t have an ultra-low-cost carrier with high costs - it tripled down on the cheap “revenge travel” boom post-pandemic, betting it would continue - but travel demand rapidly shifted to “premium” travel and heading abroad - two segments Spirit can’t serve - massive engine issues forced Spirit to ground a large (& expensive) chunk of its fleet - the big one: Buoyed by massive hubs and even bigger frequent flyer programs, major airlines like AA, Delta & United finally figured out how to weaponize stingy basic economy fares and fill larger planes with passengers who previously booked Spirit

@Houseofyogi @aagha The merger most likely wouldn’t have saved them, and would’ve dragged down Jet blue a lot quicker. They’re the next airline to fall

Spirit Airlines died tonight at the hands of the socialist crusader, Elizabeth Warren She must be so proud to add another casket to her achievements. Tonight at 3am, Spirit turns off the lights. 14,000 jobs gone. 30+ smaller airports lose service. JetBlue offered $3.8 BILLION in cash to buy Spirit in 2022. Shareholders, flight attendants union, literally everyone voted yes. The combined company would have held 9% of the US market against a Big 4 that already owned 80%. For anyone who understands numbers: 9% isn’t a monopoly against 80%. Warren said no. She wrote letters. She pressured Buttigieg. Biden’s DOJ sued. A federal judge killed the deal in January 2024. Her argument: the merger would cost consumers $1 billion a year. Now look at her collateral damage she dusts under the rug. 510 pilots gone in the months after. 1,800 flight attendants furloughed in December. 14,000 jobs in 2023. 7,500 last week. Zero tonight. And that’s just the people in Spirit uniforms. Catering goes. Fuel guys go. Baggage crews, gate agents, airport coffee shops, hotels and rental cars in 70 cities Spirit flew to. Every airline job carries 3 more on its back. 40,000 people out of work because of one woman’s moronic crusade against the market. And the math ain’t mathing. Spirit abandoned 90 routes during the death spiral. Fares on those routes are up 14% on average. Oakland to Newark: $135 to $288. Fort Myers to San Juan: $92 to $219. Kansas City to Newark up 66%. That’s reality. Not some BS number from a “study.” So @SenWarren tell me how this saves the consumer money? Cheap carriers in a market drop fares 21% across the board. Southwest did this in the 90s and saved Americans $68 BILLION over 20 years. Warren killed it. That’s what moronic politicians led by socialism do. Then with her own blind arrogance, she tweeted Spirit’s collapse is “a Biden win for flyers.” A win. 14,000 people are reading termination letters tonight. And she’s taking credit. This is socialism in 2026. A senator who’s never made payroll thinks she knows how to run a market better than the people who own and work in the company. She saved you a billion on imaginary paper. She cost you ten times that in real life. She didn’t protect consumers from anything. 14,000+ will go from working to welfare. She will make sure to blame billionaires, hardworking tax payers, AI, capitalism and whatever monster they will make up tomorrow hiding under your bed. Higher taxes. Fewer jobs. More expensive everything. She called it a win. I hope you enjoy winning.

Given the news today that Spirit Airlines is shuttering and thousands of people are losing their jobs, I think we should honestly assess whether the Garland DoJ stopping the JetBlue merger with Spirit Airlines was the right call. Perhaps it was but any analysis must consider as part of the equation the loss to so many families ro decide.
