so-called nationalists often forget that acting with maximum selfishness makes other nations stop trusting you very quickly. honoring commitments and being a dependable, reliable partner pays dividends in the long-run.

There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of the Iran war, but respect for the Iranian regime’s “sovereignty” isn’t one of them. There is no plausible standard according to which that state is legitimate.

Few people—and even migration scholars—realize how much worse European outcomes are on employment, crime, and fiscal contribution. The closest US analogy: the NYC asylum crisis, where migrants got free housing but no ability to work. The results were, predictably, "European."

In the end it boils down to "tax people I don't like". We can argue about flawed policy design and the administrative burden this imposes on people abroad, but really it's about taking money from people who he thinks deserve the slap of the state for daring to move abroad.

I strongly believe the time is now to push for Britain to adopt a US-style system. Passport holders and those with Leave To Remain should pay UK taxes on their worldwide income with pound for pound exemption for taxes already paid abroad. Citizenship is rights and obligations.

If you're a higher rate taxpayer British citizenship has meant ever more "obligations" and fewer and fewer rights for decades. It's no surprise that some people conclude the only way to avoid it is to emigrate

Vile idea. No. Passport taxation makes it more difficult to leave tax jurisdiction. This would mean higher taxes for all. Because, of course, they don't tax what they need to, they tax as much as they can get away with. That people can flee reduces rates. telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

James Clark 📈📉¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Labour is not just suspicious of markets, but actively hostile towards them. They believe - despite 100 years of evidence to the contrary - that the state control can deliver better outcomes. The UK is screwed because Labour will never understand why it is failing.
James Clark 📈📉¯\_(ツ)_/¯@mr_james_c

The common thread is Labour's incomprehension of markets. Evidence of this so far: - Housing policies that build in places people don't want to buy - Ideological attacks on independent schools - Wage increases for public sector workers - Threats on CGT

My unpopular opinion is that TfL should raise peak tube fares more. In the mornings, stations and trains are uncomfortably overcrowded and it's often difficult to get a seat. Higher fares would help with that and raise more money to invest in newer rolling stock.

The USA has various challenges related to Social Security and Medicare, but in theory a huge economic boom could make them go away. The UK has a policy in place designed to ensure that pensions bankrupt the country literally no matter what happens! slowboring.com/p/the-demonic-…
