@matt_uggla Eh? York were favourites! By a wide margin. And deservedly so - best team in the division by a mile. Not underdogs at all. Odds were.... York City 8/11 Carlisle United Evens Rochdale 5/1 Forest Green Rovers 5/1 Southend United 8/1 Scunthorpe United 14/1

@DarranPearce @AlexFYorkCity For sure. Could have even added more on as there was time wasting from York in injury time prior to the Rochdale goal. Ref had probably had enough by the end and couldn’t take another pitch invasion!

@DarranPearce @AlexFYorkCity Watched it back this morning - When Rochdale had the ball in the net there was 60 seconds more to play. After York restarted, the ball was only actually in play for 40 seconds before York scored! Rochdale were taking their time with a throw in for the rest of the added time.

@AlexFYorkCity Red said 2 minutes were left and then I suspected he stopped the watch when the ball went out for a throw in and didn’t get retrieved straightaway

This Saturday’s game brings an end to one of the most thrilling, exciting and unpredictable title races in football history. Both ourselves and Rochdale have the chance to write our names in National League history. The National League is no longer a non-league competition. It is effectively a League 3, with fully professional clubs operating at a level equal to or higher than many of those in League 2. We both understand how important this game is to both clubs and supporters. We both pledge now that whatever happens tomorrow, we will both continue to fight for 3UP. Both clubs sit on over 100 points. One of us will have to fight once more in the National League Play-Offs. However, we both strongly believe that this shouldn’t have to be the case. We call on the National League, Football Regulator, EFL and Premier League to come together immediately and resolve this issue, so that we do not have to highlight this injustice year after year. For both sets of supporters attending the Crown Oil Arena this weekend, we say thank you for being with us all season. The passion you’ve shown for both clubs has been felt across the world. This game will be seen far and wide. We want to showcase this league for all its potential. Keep your support in the stands, not on the pitch, and let’s all protect the game we love. Thank you! Rochdale AFC & York City FC #YCFC🔴🔵

@AndyMSFW Public holidays are known as Bank Holidays in UK (no one who cares actually knows why though). Non religious holidays are always on a Monday, because who wants a day off on a Wednesday when you could have a 3 day long weekend?

@AndyMSFW They are national holidays similar to MLK Day, Labor Day etc. Called Bank Holidays as the bank would traditionally be shut on those days - service and retail industries will still be operational, so think a similar workforce as a weekend.

@JoshBUFC Majority will be families I guess, probably a better atmosphere for a little one than in a drinking den. Although if we lose then it may end up being worse ha ha!

@brucemillington Don't think it needs scrapping, just needs refining how it is used. The main argument for VAR in the first place was to check if the ball was over the line when a goal was given. It is now used in more subjective areas as opposed to clear Yes / No decisions.

If they don’t scrap VAR in the face of such overwhelming evidence that fans detest it they have only themselves to blame when interest in football dwindles.
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Premier League fans deliver damning verdict on VAR. 75% of 7,946 fans polled by the Football Supporters’ Association “didn’t support the use of VAR”. Too long, too forensic, too much of a joy killer, fans say. Findings shared with Premier League and PGMO. 92% of fans surveyed “agreed” that “VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations” (82% of them “strongly agreed”). 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” with the notion that “VAR makes watching football more enjoyable”. And 83% of those watching on TV. 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” that “VAR decisions are generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time”. Echoed by 83% of those watching on TV. Only 18% agreed that “VAR has improved the overall accuracy of refereeing decisions”. 72% are “concerned about the expansion of VAR beyond its current remit”. 79% “strongly disagreed” with the suggestion “that the match-going experience is better with VAR”. 67% “strongly agreed” that they preferred “watching games that are played without VAR to games with VAR”. 84% “strongly support” goal-line technology. 34% “strongly opposed” to the idea of a challenge system (two per game per team). “These findings back up the FSA's previous survey in 2021, where fans expressed misgivings about the introduction of VAR,” says Thomas Concannon, @WeAreTheFSAPremier League network manager. “The vast majority are reporting the same concerns five years on - the loss of spontaneity when celebrating goals, and an overall worsening of the match-going experience. We have shared the survey results with the Premier League and PGMO, and look forward to discussing its findings with them.” Fans surveyed of all PL clubs and all ages (Under-18 to 65+).

@MikePannett @joembeebam @YorkCityFC @officiallydale It does beg the question as to why the club bothers having such a big away end when they are never going to actually let anyone use it! Surely it would be common sense to put the away support behind a goal in a smaller stand?
