Sen. Collins—who sits on Senate HELP—said Kaufman's past statements expressing vaccine skepticism is "concerning."
"I'm concerned that parents will make the wrong choice if they're receiving confusing public information.
Obviously, there are cases where vaccines are not appropriate for a child, but in most cases, they're lifesaving."
Kaufman's confirmation hearing is this Wednesday.

Sean Kaufman, the nominee to lead ASPR, went as far as to claim the Covid vaccine caused "excessive death and injury in the United States and globally." If confirmed, he would be in charge of the Strategic National Stockpile, which provides emergency supplies like vaccines and PPE to states overwhelmed by emergencies. His hearing in Senate HELP is scheduled for next Wednesday. He could face opposition from Sen. Bill Cassidy, who recently lost reelection and has frequently criticized Kennedy for his anti-vax views.
