Money market funds invest your cash in short term government securities and pay 15 to 20% annually. Savings accounts pay 2 to 3%. That is a 5 to 10 times difference in returns. And the liquidity is nearly identical. You can withdraw from most money market funds within 24 to 48 hours. Same access to your cash. Five to ten times better return. There is no logical reason to keep significant cash in a savings account when money market funds exist.
